Joe Duvall underwent a successful second surgery earlier this week after he was severely burned in a work place accident.

Back on August 26th, Duvall’s wife Shelley shared that Joe “was involved in a work accident and is severely burned and right now we’re just trying to navigate through everything and take it one step at a time in the burn unit. Please continue to keep him and our family in your prayers.”

He would undergo his first surgery a day later with Shelley sharing, “The doctor just came out and said Joe did amazing! They were able to take care of a few more spots during surgery, and now they’re going to give him a few days to rest and recover before they do the second surgery, which will hopefully be sometime Monday.”

On Friday, August 28th, Shelley confirmed that Joe was put on the schedule for a surgery on Monday, “They have put him on the schedule for Monday for surgery on his stomach, chest, and back planks. They got him up this morning and let him walk a little ways down the hall. They asked him what song he would like to listen he said “wanna be a baller” so that is what they played. Nurses danced and sang as he took his steps!”

After a couple of rough days where the family limited visitors due to Joe having a fever, Shelley shared an update on the Monday surgery, “Sorry it’s taken so long to update today after surgery the anesthesia and pain meds didn’t agree with Joe. Surgery did go good today. Should be finished with surgeries for a quite a while we hope.”

“Now it’s time to start healing process and all that it intel’s. Praying for a goodnight and even better day tomorrow. Continued prayers appreciated. God is good,” she continued. “Joe thinks that God is better than good and wishes he could find a word that is even better than good. And Joe says all the glory to God.”

While Joe has undergone these surgeries and is now in the process of recovering, the racing community has rallied around him. As Shelly shared in multiple posts, the family has received quite a bit of support with visitors, prayers, and more.

Jim Chisholm also shared that and Hodges Brothers Racing passed out Joe Duvall No. 91 stickers for drivers at Tri-State Speedway this past weekend to show their support. Chisholm explained, “We wanted to do something small to show our support for our friend Joe Duvall, so when our friends at Hodges Brothers Racing reached out about making some “91” stickers, we were happy to help make it happen. They were handed out at the Tri-State Speedway races this past weekend, but we know a lot of our fellow modified racers weren’t there, so we wanted to make sure anyone who would like one still has the opportunity to get one.”

“If you’d like to put a ’91’ sticker on your race car to show your support for Joe while he is healing, send us a message with your mailing information and we’ll get one sent your way,” Chisholm added. “There is NO cost for the sticker. If you’d like to help with the cost of stickers and shipping, we will accept a free-will donation, but there is absolutely NO obligation.”

Chisholm concluded, “Joe has a lot of friends in this racing community, and we hope these ’91’ stickers can be a reminder that we are thinking about him, praying for his recovery, and looking forward to seeing him back at the track, SOON!”
