On Sunday night it appeared that Forrest Trent had won the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series race at Tazewell Speedway, but he failed the droop inspection and was docked four positions and placed in fifth with Kaede Loudy getting the win.

The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series uses the World of Outlaws Late Model Series’ droop rule. That rule states that the travel limiting chain must not exceed fifty-one inches. There are three different penalties depending on how much higher than 51 inches it is. If it is between fifty one and one-sixteenth of an inch (51-1/16″) to fifty-one and one-half inch (51-1/2″) drivers are docked four positions for that event.

Trent initially addressed the penalty in a comment on the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series’ Facebook page announcing that he had “failed postrace inspection for deck height.”

He wrote, “we were 1/8” high at first check then the other 3 times they checked it was different each time. We were apparently wrong which is fine I’ll take the blame for that but when you check something and it’s different 4 out of 4 times there’s obviously a flaw in the procedure. Congrats to Kod tho if we didn’t get to win Im glad it was him.”

He reiterated that in a lengthier explanation on Facebook saying, “DROOP RULE GOT US LAST NIGHT”

“A 6 month hiatus from racing musta been what we needed. Unloaded decent yesterday with a few buddies. We started 5th in the feature and took the lead with about 15 laps to go and checked out to our first SLM win,” he wrote. “We were unfortunately docked 4 positions in post race technical inspection for 1/8” deck height infraction.”

“First off I’m not upset that we were penalized because if we were wrong, we were wrong,” Trent declared. ” What I am aggravated about is the fact that the procedure is inaccurate. They checked it 4 times and it was different 4 out of 4 times when they checked it. Now don’t get me wrong, it was high every time so that’s fine. But it varied 1 inch which was easily the difference in winning and not.”

“In my eyes we won the race but we just didn’t get to take the picture. Since we didn’t get the win I’m glad my buddy Kaede was able to capitalize on our misfortune,” he concluded. “Thanks to all my pals that came to hang out and help. REMEMBER these cars are For Sale also! Buy with confidence “

The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series is on hiatus this weekend as the Dirt Late Model world turns its attention to Eldora Speedway for the World 100. The series will be back in action for a tripleheader beginning on Thursday, September 17th at Volunteer Speedway for the $12,018 to-win Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorcher. Then on Friday it heads to Hidden Hollow Speedway for a $5,000 to-win race and closes out the weekend at I-75 Raceway on Saturday, September 19th.

Tucker Anderson is the current points leader. He has a 132 point lead over Kendall Franklin in second. Dillon Daves is in third. He is 182 back. Billy Franklin is fourth. He has a 314 point deficit to Anderson. Will Hicks is fifth. He is 404 points behind Anderson.
