World Racing Group Executive Director of Events Jeff Hachmann indicated that he and World Racing Group are open to bringing the World of Outlaws Late Models to Super DIRT Week in the future.

Back at the end of August, Hoffman was asked what track he would like to see added on to the World of Outlaws Late Model Series schedule. He made it clear he wanted to race at Oswego during Super DIRT Week.

“Oswego during super dirt week. Let us come in there and run a show on Thursday. Small block race Friday and big block race Saturday,” Hoffman wrote.

StockCarReport.com asked Hachmann if that was something World Racing Group was open to. He answered, “We heard him. Right now our focus is on putting on a great event here this year and getting that continued support to  move forward for years to come. But I wouldn’t say never.”

“It’s surely something we would consider,” he added. “How that works and when that works that’ll all depend moving forward. Obviously, with that comes more expense. Surely, late models I have it in the back of my head.”

While Hachmann gave an optimistic answer regarding adding the World of Outlaws Late Models in the future, he was less so regarding the Sprint Cars, “Sprint Cars would be great at Oswego, but it would take a lot of safety improvements.”

“You know, for you Sprint Car fans, if we get one of those things tumbling in 3 and 4, they may end up on Albany St. There would need to be a lot of safety improvements especially a track that big. I think everyone remembers when we used to run the Sprint Cars at Rolling Wheels, same size track, they’re moving.”

Super DIRT Week is a New York tradition that began in 1972 and is the flagship event for the region’s Big Block Modifieds. The event originally took place at the Syracuse Mile or “The Moody Mile” in Syracuse at the New York State Fairgrounds as an end of season finale. The first one took place over three days from September 29 through October 1 and saw Florida’s Buzzie Reutimann win. The event subsequently grew into a multi-day championship weekend with races at other local tracks such as Rolling Wheels Raceway, Weedsport Speedway, and Brewerton Speedway.

The Syracuse facility was demolished in 2015 and the event was moved to Oswego Speedway, which is typically an asphalt track home to the region’s unique supermodified cars. However, it is converted into a dirt track for Super DIRT Week with dump trucks bringing in between four and five hundred loads of dirt. Additionally, the track’s foam blocks are removed and more than 200 Jersey barriers are placed around the speeday. In 2022, CNY Central reported the event was expected to attract over 30,000 fans and “is the largest economic event for Oswego.”

The conversion process turns the historic 5/8-mile Steel Palace into a temporary clay oval each October, usually around Columbus Day weekend. The 2026 edition is scheduled for October 5-10 and marks the 54th running of the festival as well as its tenth year at Oswego. The overall purse across all divisions now exceeds $420,000, with the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 serving as the richest race of the week.

The event features a number of DIRTcar Northeast Series including the DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, DIRTcar Sportsman, and DIRTcar Pro Stocks. The main headline is the Super DIRTcar Series.
