Bill Balog shared an update noting that he is fine after he was involved in a wicked wreck during heat race competition with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Kings Speedway on Tuesday night.

Balog was running fourth in the third heat when he slipped up on the cushion and then did a wheelie as he attempted to recover. As his front wheels came back to the ground, his right front made contact with Logan Schuchart’s left rear. Schuchart quickly closed on Balog after his mistake and was looking to take advantage of it.  

The contact sent Balog spinning back up the track and then he began rapidly barrel rolling, flipping, and pirouetting through the air. He eventually came to a stop on his side after a hard impact with the catch fence

Balog was slated to start second in the race’s Last Chance Showdown, but he never made it back out.

DIRTVision’s Conner Wade reported, “First off, Bill Balog, he is a scratch for the evening after that really hard flip down the back straightaway in turn 3. I actually went up and saw the rear end. There was a big hole in the rear end. Rear end grease had dripped everywhere on to the race car even the wing, in the seat, and even down to the frame rails to the front of the car from that impact. So Balog’s night is done.”

Balog and his team shared an update on Wednesday afternoon. The team noted in a post to social media, “A big thank you to our crew, safety equipment partners & fans support after our wreck at Kings Speedway. They’re getting the car ready for the weekend in Cali with the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Bakersfield Speedway and Ventura Raceway.”

In the accompanying video, Balog added, “I just wanted to talk to you guys real quick. There’s been a little bit of concern about my well-being. I’m totally fine. We’re just fixing the car. A little bit dinged up, but throw some new bushings in it, rear end, just some of the parts and stuff. We’re probably going to change the engine.”

“Just appreciate everybody’s support,” he continued. “Unfortunate deal last night. It doesn’t matter what you say or what you do. Just want to let everyone know that I’m okay and definitely appreciate those two guys up there. They just let me leave the race track last night in the rental car and they just took care of everything. So it’s pretty cool of them to do all that. Like I said, appreciate everybody’s support.”

As Balog’s team noted the Northpole Nightmare will be back in action this weekend at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield, California on Friday, September 25th. They will then head to the picturesque Ventura Raceway on Saturday, September 26th.

Balog and the team are currently 12th in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series points. They are 1062 behind current lead David Gravel. The team has 8 Top 5s and 23 Top 10s. It is still chasing its first win of the season.
