Josh Berry went into detail on what he was trying to convey with his post-race sign language that was directed toward Carson Hocevar at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
Following the scuffle between Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar on pit road, Berry and Ryan Preece were seen interacting with Hocevar shortly after he worked up the crowd. Preece can be seen jawing at Hocevar while Berry appears to be looking at replay footage on a big screen.
After Preece concludes his jawing, Berry then makes a hand chirping or bye-bye motion with his hands. He then appears to mockingly hype up the crowd as Hocevar was doing moments ago.

Berry appeared on the Gluckcast to discuss what he meant with his hand gestures, “Well, obviously, I had walked out to the pit wall to watch all the fireworks the best I could and see what was happening. And Ryan had walked down there and he was a little bit animated and those two started having a conversation. Let’s just say Ryan was saying some things and Carson was saying another thing. It was just yapping is what it was. That’s what I saw.”
“I definitely didn’t expect it to go viral like it did,” he continued. “And I didn’t have any beef with Carson. I was just standing there watching it all. I didn’t have any beef with Carson. I haven’t had a problem with him in—. I can’t even remember how long. I don’t think we’ve had very many issues.”
“But I was just kind of in the right place at the wrong time, I guess, when all that was going on. And then I hit him with the hands a little bit there,” he said. “Like I said, I wasn’t mad at him. I didn’t even open my mouth the entire time. On the camera it looks like I’m facing him, like jawing at him, but I’m not saying a word. I’m just watching them.”
“It was no intent other than me just maybe egg it on a little bit,” Berry concluded.
Ryan Preece previously shared during an appearance on Door Bumper Clear what he said to Hocevar, “I think I said, ‘Do you think your car insurance knows what you do for a living?’ That’s it.”
The NASCAR Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway for the Hollywood Casino 400 on Sunday September, 27th. The race is expected to start at 3:00 PM and will be broadcast on USA. The Cup Series will have practice at 10 AM on Saturday, September 26th followed by qualifying at 11 AM.
