Brad Keselowski On Carson Hocevar’s Wreck At Kansas: “Makes For A Damn Good Story”

Brad Keselowski shared his thoughts on what happened that saw Carson Hocevar wreck at Kansas Motor Speedway during a restart in Stage 2.

On a restart on lap 122, Hocevar laid back on the restart in the bottom lane and then attempted to move up to the middle and collided with Ty Gibbs, who seemingly had the same idea. Gibbs got into the rear of Bubba Wallace spinning him. He hit Hocevar as he was coming down the track and the two collected Eric Jones. Also involved was Josh Berry and Zane Smith.

As for Keselowski’s role, he was directly behind Hocevar and might have gave him a slight nudge as he was coming up to speed with Hocevar laying so far back off of Chase Elliott.

Following the conclusion of the race, Keselowski was asked about the wreck. He told USA, “They crashed. I didn’t see what happened. They were in front of me, and then they weren’t. From what I’m told, they made some contact there in the outside lane, so I don’t really feel like that had anything to do with me, but makes for a damn good story.”

Keselowski also told Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass after the race, “I don’t know. Did the 77 crash in it? I know he was tore up.”

“I knew I gave him a push and then they started wrecking to my right. I couldn’t tell what happened,” Keselowski added.

As for Hocevar, he told USA, “It just looked like me and the 54 were just kinda going for the same spot. He was in my blind spot. I didn’t know he was shooting that middle. We just ended up wrecking. And then after that our car was destroyed. Not all fun, but it was good to have speed at the start. We continue to work on Kansas, which is important to us. I’d much rather be fast and wrecked then be slow. Something to build on, I guess.”

Hocevar also told Pockrass, “It looked like we spun. … I felt contact from all over. … Everybody’s trying to go for the middle because that seems to be the preferred spot. I don’t know if I tried to fill that hole that we were all trying to merge into, but we wrecked.”

When asked about his car after that, he said, “Destroyed. Not a lot of fun, Bob.”

He was also asked if Keselowski was giving him some payback, he answered, “Nah. I don’t think so. Nah, if anything it was just us trying to merge, whoever was right of me.”

Keselowski and Hocevar recently had a run-in at Darlington at the beginning of the month. Toward the end of Stage 1 of the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, Keselowski got a run to the outside of Hocevar as they were racing for 17th and 18th position. Hocevar drifted up the track and made contact with Keselowski’s left rear quarter panel. The contact got Brad squirrely and he bounced off the wall. Hocevar then appeared to hit him again to finish him off. After the second hit, Keselowski spun down the track.

Keselowski would end up finishing 23rd while Hocevar brought it home 11th. Following the race, Keselowski spoke to Above The Yellow Line about the spin saying, “He ran into me.”

When asked if there was any history or why Hocevar ran into him, Keselowski responded, “There will be. Oh yeah. His day’s coming and it’s coming hard. Watch out, Carson!”

As for his perspective on Keselowski’s spin, Hocevar told USA Network, “He spun. I don’t know what happened. He spun.”

“I do everything for TV and entertainment purposes based off everybody else,” Hocevar added. “So I don’t know. Whatever makes us good TV. I just do it for the clicks.”

He reiterated that while speaking to Steven Taranto, “I don’t know. It looked like he spun.” When asked how, he said, “I don’t know. He spun.” When he was informed of Keselowski’s comments he said, “I’ll tighten my belts.”

When asked about Brad’s comments by Above the Yellow Line, Hocevar shared a similar response, “I’ll tighten my belts.” Then when asked if he intentionally spun Keselowski, he said, “No.”

Hocevar, who had already promised a finish-based discount after starting 34th, tacked on another 6% off his merch store after RFK posted “Caution involving a self-proclaimed ipad kid and BK.”
