NASCAR Issues Multiple Penalties After Corey Heim Was Attacked Following The Conclusion Of The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 At Martinsville

NASCAR doled out a number of penalties in the wake of Corey Heim getting attacked following the conclusion of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway.

The attack came in the wake of hard racing for the win at the end of the race and tempers getting lost on the cooldown lap. Heim in the No. 22 Nelson Motorsports car battled with Treyten Lapcevich in the No. 77 and Caden Kvapil in the No. 88 for the win. As they got the white flag, Heim gave Lapcevich the bumper in turns 1 and 2 that got him sideways. After he got it corrected exiting the corner, the two beat and banged down the back stretch. Heim then drove it deep into 3 and 4 and pushed Lapcevich up the track. 

While all that was happening, Kvapil pulled away to get the win. Heim finished second and Lapcevich settled for third.

On the cooldown lap, Lapcevich expressed his displeasure by coming down on Heim. Heim responded by running into the side of Lapcevich’s car and then up and over his left front. Heim then crashed into the outside wall while Lapcevich spun to a stop in the outside of turn 2.

After post-race interviews were conducted where both Lapcevich and Heim shared their points of view on the cooldown lap wreck, Heim was attacked by multiple members of the Chad Bryant Racing team at the Hot Dog stand in the infield.


NASCAR Communications shared that Chad Bryant was fined $2,000 and suspended indefinitely from NASCAR. Additionally, he was suspended from the 2027 running of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville. He will also have to take a NASCAR approved anger management program and has been placed on probation for a single year.

Crew member Steven Civatares was fined $1,000 and suspended indefinitely from NASCAR. He was also suspended from the 2027 running of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville and has been placed on  probation for a year.

Finally, Ryden Lapcevich, Treyten’s younger brother, was fined $500 and placed on probation until the end of the year.

On top of the penalties to Bryant, Civatares, and Lapcevich, NASCAR also fined Dylan Jenks and Ryan Burrow $500 and placed them on probation until the end of the year. Brad Housewright and Chase Burrow were also fined $250 and placed on probation.

Housewright and Burrow fought on pit road following the conclusion of their heat race on Saturday afternoon. Neither driver transferred into the main event with Housewright finishing 11th and Burrow finishing 12th.

Housewright told Short Track Scene that he took issue with Burrow because he believed he attempted to right rear hook him.

“We was up under him and was coming to the checkered. As I was passing him, he tried to right rear me. I don’t appreciate that. You can get somebody hurt or even killed. And I went over there to say something to him and he started running that mouth. [Crap] happens.”

Burrow’s version was vastly different. He told Short Track Scene, “[Housewright] was mad at me for some reason. I never even, like, raced him. And I turned around and walked away, and he grabbed the smallest guy on the team. So, I don’t know why he grabbed the smallest guy, but that ain’t really good. So, I don’t know. I don’t know what his deal was, but it was Martinsville.”
