Kenny Wallace shared his thoughts on why he believes Brad Keselowski is leaving RFK Racing.

On Tuesday, RFK Racing and Keselowski announced that Keselowski would depart the organization as the driver of its No. 6 Ford Mustang and that he would no longer be the Head of Competition. Furthermore, it was heavily implied that Keselowski would exit his ownership role with the press release stating, “RFK Racing and Keselowski intend to collaboratively and mutually work through the appropriate next steps regarding his existing ownership interest in the organization, and the team supports his desire to explore his career opportunities elsewhere.”

Neither Keselowski nor RFK Racing shared any details as to why he was departing the organization that he is a co-owner of. Reporter Jordan Bianchi claimed that it was a “philosophical difference, if you will, on how to best run the company and how to position it going forward.”

“Brad has had ideas. Fenway Sports Group had theirs. And they just couldn’t get on the same page and what they wanted to do,” he added.

After speculating about issues with Ford and RFK Racing not having an alliance with Penske, Bianchi reiterated, “On the business side, there just was a sense that this team needed a different voice. It needed a different guidance. And that everything had kind of come to a loggerhead on what each side wanted and what each side was getting out of this. And eventually just hit a point that this was probably best for both sides to split.”

Fox Sports’ Bob Pockrass did not provide a ton of details, but he claimed that “Keselowski’s contract negotiations with the RFK Racing board — a somewhat expected formality considering his ownership stake — broke down”.

Adam Sterm at Sports Business Journal claimed that “people close to the team say there have been signs for months of a lack of alignment between Keselowski and other owners on certain business issues.”

As for Wallace, he shared his thoughts on the most recent Coffee With Kenny episode, “Brad Keselowski is a winner. He’s a champion. He did all that with Penske. He goes over to Roush, he makes them better. Like Mark Martin said, they won seven races with their drivers: Ryan Preece, Chris Buescher. They’ve won seven races with those two drivers. And Keselowski is getting closer and closer himself.”

“And I think he was getting aggravated leading all those races, late caution coming out, something messing up his win,” he continued. “And I think the Roush regime, even though he was part of the ownership, they didn’t let him do what he wanted to do. And I think he got aggravated.”

“Remember this, winners and champions know what they need. If you don’t give it to them, they get aggravated. You are in their way,” he said. “So, in ending, I think my opinion, I think that Roush was in Brad Keselowski’s way.”
