With several weather models now showing rain associated with Hurricane Isaias reaching the Chatsworth, Georgia area late this evening, North Georgia Speedway and Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series officials have mutually decided this morning to postpone tonight’s Tarheel Race. A possible makeup date for the $6,000 to win Super Late Model special is being explored by officials.
“We hate to make this announcement, as we’ve tried to bring Super Late Models to North Georgia Speedway all year long and it keeps raining on us,” quoted Ray Cook this morning. “Last night, the different weather models were pretty much in agreement that the rain wouldn’t reach us until the overnight hours – well after the race would have been concluded. Now, several models are showing the rain coming in at like 8 or 9 tonight and obviously we can’t get the entire program in if that happens. Plus, for the safety of all the race teams and fans that have to drive back home through the storm, we think this is the right decision to make in postponing the event.”
Unless the Tarheel Race gets rescheduled prior to Sunday, October 25, the next race on the SAS schedule will be the $30,000 to win Blue Gray 100 that day at the renowned Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. More information will be made available online at www.sasdirt.com.
