Nick Hoffman had a trying night at Volunteer Speedway with the FloRacing Night in America series that ended with a DNF and a 23rd place finish.
With 35 laps to go, a caution came out for Barrett Lowe and Hoffman who both had spun at different parts of the track. Lowe had spun on the front stretch while Hoffman was sitting next to the infield tractor tire at the exit of turn 2.
A FloRacing replay showed that coming off of turn 4, Hoffman slowed and attempted to get to the bottom of the track on the front stretch, but Lowe happened to be there and the two made contact. That sent Lowe spinning down the front stretch.
Meanwhile, Hoffman limped his car back to the infield entrance at the exit of turn 2, but spun it around when he was trying to get in and came to a stop next to the infield tractor tire.
FloRacing pit reporter Randy Weaver shared following the spin, “Nick said something broke in the motor or whatever and of course that locks the back tires up and probably didn’t help that he’s in that moisture too. He said definitely something in the motor and then that locks you up and you spin out.”
Hoffman shared additional details with Stock Car Report, “I was trying to get off the race track and there was still just enough mud down there that I slid into the infield wall. A [crap] night altogether. I qualified terrible. I got myself tight both laps in three and four. Did that on my own. Then you’re trying to dig yourself out. It’s been frustrating all night.”
“About a lap before that it felt like I was losing brakes and I don’t know if I was starting to get oil all over my rotors or what, but ended up breaking a motor is the ultimate end goal of what happened,” he continued.
“So down the front straightaway I hit the switches and shut it off and was just kind of coasting. And then I was just trying to get off the race track without causing a caution and I drove through all that mud and then crashed myself again. Just [crap] happens. Second time I’ve done that. Oh well. [Crap] happens,” Hoffman concluded.
On X, Hoffman shared that he was heading back to his shop in Mooresville to replace the motor. He wrote, “Big riggin this baby back to the shop to get the new car. Broke a motor tonight. Makes more sense for us to go a couple hours out of the way to grab another car vs spending the time change motors and oil systems. Bad night all together. [crap] happens. Keep diggin.”
“Racecar ran out of horsepower tonight but I won’t with NOS Energy Drink.”

With the DNF, Hoffman finds himself in 5th place in the FloRacing Night in America Series points standings. He is 156 points behind current leader Brandon Sheppard with just the doubleheader at Senoia Raceway left to conclude the season. However, the series will only take the best eight performances overall and this one at Volunteer has been his worst to-date. His other poor finish came at Marshalltown, where he finished 19th after suffering a brake failure that sent him into the fence. So two good runs at Senoia could shake up the points standings.
While he will have to wait until November to conclude the FloRacing Night in America Series, Hoffman is back in action for a doubleheader at Modoc Speedway with the World of Outlaws Late Models on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24, for the Modoc 100. He finds himself in second place in the points, 96 points behind current leader Bobby Pierce with five races left.
The last time the Outlaws were in action was nearly a month ago and Hoffman swept both nights of the King of the Arch doubleheader at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park. He will look to do the same at Modoc as he aims to chip into Pierce’s lead heading into the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in November.
