Mike Marlar debuted a brand new Longhorn Chassis with a black and yellow scheme at Volunteer Speedway and showed some decent speed working his way up into the top 10 before he cut a tire ending his night early.

Marlar spoke about the new chassis following the race with StockCarReport.com. He shared that the Rocket XR2 he has been competing with was the team’s only car, but they had a stable of Longhorns that were being run in Crate competition so they decided to add another Longhorn.

“Well, we only had one car with our Rocket and we wanted to get another car and Ronnie [Delk’s] kids, Trey and Jared, they’re racing now. So, we got mainly all Longhorns and one Rocket. So we said, ‘We’ll get us another Longhorn and run that some,'” Marlar explained. “But my Rocket’s been really good at some of these places. So we’ll figure out what we’re going to do there.”

On the new paint scheme, Marlar shared, “As far as the black and yellow, I was wanting to get a car later, maybe in the winter or whatever, but that car just came available from a guy that already had it built. So that’s what color it is. I like the black and yellow. It was an all black car. We put some yellow on it. That’s kind of our thing we did for years. We ain’t had a black and yellow car since, I think, ’21, but we ran black and yellow cars really primarily the whole time I’ve been with Ronnie. So it’s black and yellow. Looks pretty good.”

“Don’t have a name,” Marlar added. “Devin said it was his favorite colors. So he liked it. I told him I looked like a little Tri-Valley Scottie out there in black and yellow. That’s his high school. My wife’s high school too. They went to the same place.”

Marlar also confirmed that he still has his Rocket XR2, “Yeah, it’s there at the shop. The motor’s out of it. We’re getting the motor freshened. So motor’s out of it. We’ll do something there.”

Despite the cut tire that ended his night with less than 10 laps left in the 50-lap feature, Marlar plans to make repairs to the Longhorn and be in competition with the World of Outlaws Late Models at Modoc Speedway for the Modoc 100 doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24.

“We’ll race this car this weekend, see how we like it, and then maybe go to Portsmouth here in a week or two. Go to Modoc this weekend. I think if I go to Modoc and it goes smooth, I’ll do Cherokee.”
