The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP would return to action after a couple of weeks off for the 19th Annual Monster Mash at Montpelier Speedway in Montpelier, IN and Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, MI would take the lead on lap eighteen and drive on to the victory and $5,000 payday. A total of 146 cars amongst four divisions jammed the pit area and a capacity grandstand crowd would witness a great night of racing action.
The win by the 40-year-old Schlenk would be his fourth of the season with the tour and his series leading 44th career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series victory. The win would come behind the wheel of the Tyler Borck owned Domination Race Car with sponsorship from Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Tri-State Pole Barns, Tim Finch Automotive, Air Tight Insulation, Larry’s Mobile Repair, VP Racing Fuel, VP Lubricants, Domination Race Products, Landrum Performance Springs, Integra Shocks, XS Power, KBC Graphix, MAGA Lifts, OTR Filters, Velocita USA, Quickcar, Willy’s Carb and Dyno, Wilwood Brakes, Zamp Racing, and Race-Fan.com.
Cody Bauer would take the lead at the drop of the green flag in the 19th Annual Monster Mash Valvoline A-Main, with Rusty Schlenk, Seth Daniels, Miles Cook II, and Clayton Bryant giving chase. Cook II would take third from Daniels on lap three and Bryant would grab fourth from Daniels on lap four, while Bauer and Schlenk would motor away from the field.
The caution flag appeared on lap seven for debris on the backstretch and the restart would see Bauer maintain the lead over Schlenk, Cook II, while Daniels would go back to fourth and bring David Webb along into fifth. Webb and Bowersock would settle into a battle for the fifth position and Bowersock would take fifth on lap nine.
Bauer and Schlenk continued to run one-two and have a comfortable gap to third place Cook II until the caution waved again on lap twelve for a backstretch tangle involving Herb Reich and Jeff Robertson. The restart would see Bauer, Schlenk, and Cook II first through third, with Webb would take fourth from Daniels. Bauer, Schlenk, and Cook II would put some distance back to the fourth-place battle between Daniels and Webb, with Webb taking the spot on lap sixteen. Schlenk would turn up the pressure on Bauer at this point and would take the lead on lap eighteen and quickly put some distance back to Bauer.
The final caution would wave on lap twenty-five for a three-car tangle involving Bowersock, Carter Schlenk, and Jeff Robertson. Schlenk would get a great restart, with Bauer, Cook II, and Webb in pursuit, while Devin Gilpin would go to fifth. Gilpin would get fourth from Webb on lap twenty-seven and Gilpin would take third from Cook II one lap later. Schlenk would score the victory, with Bauer finishing second and Gilpin taking third. A wild scrabble on the final lap would see Rod Conley grab fourth from Cook II, who would settle for fifth. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Colten Burdette, 18th starting Justin White, Wayne Chinn, Webb, and Daniels.
