Kenny Wallace did not like the fact that Hyak Motorsports fired Tab Boyd, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s spotter, for his comments about Mexico City.

Ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Mexico City, Boyd posted to X, “I’m ready to go home, screw this place, people can talk it up all they want….. can’t even walk out the front door of the hotel without getting hustled and money snatched….in less than 5 minutes. Good area my ass….”

Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass then revealed on June 19th that Boyd had been replaced by Clayton Hughes as the spotter for Stenhouse Jr.

Stenhouse then confirmed to SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that Hyak fired Boyd. He shared, “Obviously, that’s an unfortunate deal. The team let Tab Boyd go this week. We got Clayton Hughes to come fill in. I’ve never worked with Clayton. Obviously, I think, the concern for me is trying to get on the same page as quick as we can knowing, like you said, that the schedule coming up, going to Atlanta next week is a very, could be a very important race for our race team in trying to get us into the playoffs and put us in the right position.”

Wallace shared his thoughts on the firing in a video to X this morning, “Tab is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet and they fired him. They fired him for being Ricky Stenhouse’s spotter because he simply said to get him out of Mexico City, he’s had enough of this place. I think the firing was wrong. I think that takes me to the woke days when people were woke. It was very disappointing.”

He later added, “Tab Boyd had a bad experience. Got ripped off somehow. I haven’t called Tab, but I guess he got ripped off on an app or something. And he got upset. And it gets us all in trouble every time, grab the damn phone. Your phone will get you in trouble. Just like Mark Martin and myself did two days ago when we did ‘Kenny Conversation.'”

“I don’t know exactly, but someone at the team, Hyak, is the people that owns Ricky Stenhouse’s car, and they fired him. … And that was wrong. That was wrong. He should have never been fired. And it was not even a derogatory tweet. It was just like, ‘Get me out of Mexico City.’ That’s all it was. Whatever happened to, ‘Hey man, you’re going to work for us for one month for no money because what you said we didn’t like. But this is where we’re at nowadays.”
