Dirt late model driver Spencer Hughes, who has been competing with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this year, was arrested in South Carolina and charged with criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

According to Horry County South Carolina’s Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Hughes was arrested on June 27th and charged with sex/criminal sexual conduct in the third degree. Hughes posted a bail of $7,500 on June 28th.

The State of South Carolina defines criminal sexual conduct in the third degree as: (1) A person is guilty of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree if the actor engages in sexual battery with the victim and if any one or more of the following circumstances are proven:(a) The actor uses force or coercion to accomplish the sexual battery in the absence of aggravating circumstances. It adds, “Criminal sexual conduct in the third degree is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than ten years, according to the discretion of the court.”

Hughes, who races for JCM Motorsports, was expected to compete at Atomic Speedway with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on July 4th and at Muskingum County Speedway for the Freedom 60 on July 5th.It’s unclear if those plans have changed or not.
