Lane Goodman shared a health update after he was transported to IU Health Methodist hospital via ambulance following a wreck in his heat race during USAC BC39 at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

After a number of cautions at the beginning of the heat race, officials decided to have a single-file restart, Goodman who was the pole sitter led the field into turns 1 and 2, but in the middle of them, he appeared to hit a divot and biked his vehicle. When his tires came back down he lost control and bounced into the outside wall. After making hard contact with the wall, the car landed on all fours and Goodman steered it down to the infield.

The race stayed green until a caution came out for Bradley Cox with 2 laps left. It then went red as medical professionals were called to attend to Goodman.

Goodman shared an update to Facebook revealing he was transferred to IU Health Methodist hospital in Indianapolis after suffering sever upper back pain. After being examined by doctors, he shared he suffered a “compression fracture on [his] T4 vertebrae.”

He wrote, “First and foremost I want to extend a thank you to all of the first responders at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Both the track staff and USAC Racing staff. They did an outstanding job making sure I was taken care of and not injured any further.”

“Tonight during my heat race I was involved in an on track incident which resulted in the chassis taking a direct hit on the concrete barrier. This was due to my own misjudgment and nobody else involved. I was then transported by Ambulance to IU Health Methodist hospital in Indianapolis with severe upper back pain,” Goodman continued. “The scans came back showing a compression fracture on my T4 vertebrae and I’m currently waiting for further evaluation here at the hospital from the doctors. I can move and have feeling in all of my extremities so that is a big plus, and I have some of the best friends in the world here with me making sure I’m good for the most part.”

“Thank you to everyone that has reached out to check on me, I’m sorry for not updating as I was without my cell phone for hours. Will update further as I get more info,” he concluded.

In a more recent update, he shared a photo of him in a neck and back brace and revealed he’s been discharged and he will not have to undergo surgery.

“Just got discharged here in Indy, luckily avoiding surgery as everything looks to be in place. Just have to be in a brace for the next few months and obviously no racing for a while. Very thankful for my circle of friends and to be walking out of that place under my own power after being horizontal for the last 14 hours!”
