Hudson O’Neal put the blame on himself after he spun during a spirited battle with Tim McCreadie in the closing laps of the first night of the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake.

Following a caution for Garrett Smith with two laps to go, O’Neal got a huge run ripping the top of turns 1 and 2. He drew side by side with McCreadie going into turn 3. However, as he brought his car down in an attempt to take the bottom from McCreadie he made contact with McCreadie’s right front. The contact sent McCreadie sideways, but he was able to gather it back up in the middle of 3 and 4. As McCreadie was getting his car back straight, O’Neal drifted up the track and then looped it in the top of turn 4.

O’Neal’s spin would bring out another caution and McCreadie would eventually go on to win holding off Nick Hoffman and Chris Madden. In victory lane, McCreadie shared his side on the contact, “Hudson almost pulled my pants down on that last restart. I should have known better to roll the middle or going on the top. Once we packed the crumbs down for a few laps, it’s going to be fast and I went into one and kind of parked too hard. And I don’t know what happened on the backstretch. I didn’t really do nothing any different than I’ve been doing. He just happened to clip me with a — I think his wheel or something. But it stretched the wheel right out of my hand. I thought I was going to spin out down there. I got lucky and hung on to it.”

Similarly, O’Neal shared on Facebook, “Took us out of contention tonight coming to the white flag. Contact in a racing deal and it knocked the wheel out of my hands. We have a bad fast car. Gonna put our heads down and keep grinding.”

What do you make of O’Neal putting the blame on himself?
