Ridge & Sons Racing announced that Justin Sanders will continue to fill in for the injured Aaron Ruetzel as High Limit Racing resumes at Thunderbowl Raceway later this week on August 15th.

Sanders joined Ridge & Sons Racing after Reutzel fractured his right foot during a crash at Eldora Speedway during the Knight Before The Kings Royal. While running in second on lap 15, Reutzel clipped the cushion and then flipped end over end while getting into turn 1. While airborne his wing caught the catch fence and turned the car so it landed on its side. He was then hit by Zach Hampton that lifted Ruetzel’s car airborne. Seconds later Steven Snyder Jr. plowed into him sending his car into the middle of turns 1 and 2. Reutzel exited the car under his own power, but immediately fell to the ground and began crawling away from his vehicle.

Sanders piloted the Ridge & Sons Racing No. 87 sprint car to a 5th place in the C-Main during the Knoxville Nationals on Saturday night. During the 360 Nationals the previous week, he finished 11th in the A Feature.

Owner Brian Ridge told Fully Injected, “What he’s been forced to do is not easy, but we appreciate his hard work and focus. Justin (Sanders) is a talented race car driver and he’s doing an excellent job. He’s going to be our main man as Aaron (Reutzel) continues to recover. He’s very competitive in California, and with our schedule heading that direction, I’m confident big things are ahead.”

Sanders is confirmed to compete at Thunderbowl Raceway and Placerville on Friday and Saturday, August 15-16. There was no mention on if he will continue with the team as it heads to Silver Dollar Speedway for the Gold Cup Race of Champions that takes place from August 21-23.

Additionally, it is unclear if Ridge & Sons Racing will request another medical provisional for Reutzel. He took one during the High Limit race at Lernerville last month, where he was awarded 49 points or the equivalent of a 12th place finish. The High Limit Racing rulebook does indicate that drivers may “be granted one extension if needed and approved by High Limit Officials” after the initial 10 day provisional expires. Reutzel is currently in a a very contested championship battle with Brad Sweet, Rico Abreu, and Brent Marks. He’s currently in third just 25 points behind current leader Brad Sweet.
