Hunt the Front’s Joseph Joiner hinted that the recently announced partnership between him and JCM Motorsports could continue after the Topless 100.
On August 14th, JCM Motorsports announced that Joiner would replace Spencer Hughes as their driver for the upcoming Topless 100. Hughes and JCM Motorsports amicably split ways earlier this week with Hughes telling FloRacing’s Kyle McFadden, “I’m thankful for all of it, Colten and his family and everyone that’s been with him that’s been able to do it for me the couple years. Just sometimes life takes you down different paths. He wanted to continue pursuing the Lucas Oil Late Model Series and I just wasn’t really in the position at this time to do so.”
“I felt like it was in the best interest for me personally in my life to run more of a regional schedule for the back half of this year until we can get all our ducks in a row,” Hughes added. “Colten wanted to continue on. He wanted to go on Lucas and stuff, and I just believe I have to do what’s right for me and everyone around me. There was no big blow up either. I talked to him, and he talked to his wife. And they understand.”
Following the split, JCM Motorsports crew member Danny “Smoke” Treaster announced that the team was planning to compete in the Topless 100 and complete the Lucas Oil season, “We’re working hard to make it to Batesville and our plans are to be there for the Topless 100. Colten and all of us at JCM’s goal is to complete the Lucas Oil season.”
After it was announced that Joiner would pilot the JCM Motorsports 19m during the Topless 100, Joiner shared more details about the deal and hinted that he might continue with the team after the Topless 100. He told FloRacing’s Kyle McFadden, “As of right now, we’re going to Batesville trying to keep the JCM team’s Lucas Oil eligibility, all the contingencies and stuff for that. We’d like to get involved in teaming up somehow. We’re discussing stuff moving forward, but for now, it’s Batesville only this weekend and we’ll talk about the rest later.”
He added, “We weren’t planning on racing this weekend anyway, so it’s like, no harm, no foul. Instead of having a weekend off, we’ll go run his stuff and see what materializes and see what happens. And that’s pretty much [it]. We’ll see what happens.”
In a video uploaded to the Hunt the Front YouTube channel, Jonathan Joiner also stated, “We’re going to go this weekend, and drive the car, and see what happens, and we’ll go from there.”
JCM Motorsports Colten Miller also shared with McFadden, “We’re looking forward to seeing what Joseph can do in our equipment. He’s a strong competitor and it’s an exciting opportunity for both sides. I really appreciate Joseph for stepping in and helping out.”
“We are continuing to build our reputation for fielding competitive cars and attracting top driving talent. This weekend’s pairing reflects the team’s willingness to explore new opportunities and collaborations. We are excited to see how the weekend goes,” he added.
