A new rumor claims that Josh Richards will make his return to the dirt late model world at Lernerville Speedway for the Hillbilly 100 this upcoming weekend.
The rumor was shared by T.Y. Newlon in the Racing Behind The Scenes Facebook group. He wrote, “Word on the street is kid rocket Josh Richards will be racing this weekend at the hillbilly 100 at lernerville! I hope he smokes em all!!”
In the comments of the post, Newlon wrote, “it came from a reliable source. He’s thinking about racing at Pittsburgh motor speedway too.
Additionally, he shared, “they haven’t announced anything yet but I’m hearing he’s gonna race at lernerville and possibly Pittsburgh motor speedway. We shall see I guess.”

This rumor comes in the wake of Rocket1 sharing a photo that included four different late models in their shop.

Richards did climb back into a car back on June 17th. Rocket1 shared video of him ripping around Sharon Speedway as part of a test session with Brandon Sheppard.

Following the test session, his father Mark Richards provided an update on when his son might be back in the car telling DirtonDirt.com’s Kevin Kovac, “Everybody wants to know when (Josh is going to race), and I don’t know. And I’m not lying. I don’t know. Whenever he decides he’s ready to go, we’ll try to make it happen. It’s just going to be tough right now because we’re getting ready to get busy. It would be hard, just not having the whole crew there, you know, to help him with it. Because these cars, it’s quite a bit to race one of these things today. It’s not like you just load up and go race.”
Additionally, he shared that the plan was to originally run at East Bay last year, but that plan did not work with Richards explaining, “And then he just thought the timing was too close, so we talked about putting a car together for next — for this year — and done our part with that. It’s ready to go.” He did share that he hoped to see him compete in the Pittsburgher, which takes place from October 3-4, but also hoped it would be sooner than that.
Steve Baker, who co-owns Rocket Chassis also indicated he wanted Richards to get back in the car and even tried to get him back at Lernerville for the Firecracker 100 back in June, “We tried to get him to come here. I said, ‘Josh, if you want to run Lernerville this weekend, we’ll make sure we got everything together and the people that can do it,’ but he had something going he said.”
Time will tell if Richards returns this weekend for the Hillbilly 100 or not.
