Lernerville Speedway announced that Josh Richards will make his return to super late model racing at the track for this weekend’s upcoming Hillbilly 100.
Lernerville Speedway posted to Facebook, “Josh Richards will make his return to Super Late Models Racing this weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at the Lernerville Speedway for Hillbilly 100 weekend!”
Richards is no stranger to the track winning the Firecracker 100 at the track back in 2013. However, The Hillbilly 100 will be Richards’ first laps in a dirt late model during competition since his last start in November 2022 during the World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte where he finished 24th in the feature. He did climb back in the car earlier this year when he, Brandon Sheppard, and Rocket Chassis tested at Sharon Speedway back in the middle of June.

That test went well for Richards with his father Rocket Chassis co-owner Mark Richards sharing with DirtonDirt.com’s Kevin Kovac, “It looked just like he always did. I’ve seen him a lot over the years, and, I mean, it just wasn’t no surprise that he was just going to go out there and do it like he did before.”
Rocket Chassis crew member Austin Hargrove echoed those comments, “Like he never left. Like, I figured he would go out there and make a slow lap, feel it out. We didn’t even know if it would go in gear, you know what I mean? I mean, did we prepare it right? You just never know if something’s wrong. But he pulled out the gate … and (he was) to the wood. It’s like he never left.”
Brandon Sheppard also revealed that Richards was running similar times to him, “From car to car, we could run the same times. We switched back-and-forth a little bit.”
Hillbilly 100 action starts on Friday August 29th for a $10,000 to-win preliminary feature and then closes out on Saturday August 30th with a $30,000 to-win race. The race will be televised on FloRacing.
