Ridge & Sons Racing announced that Aaron Reutzel will return to the cockpit of their sprint car for the Tsucarora 50 at Port Royal after suffering a broken foot at Eldora.
The team announced on Facebook, “Anddd he’s back! Aaron Reutzel to return to Ridge & Sons Racing for Port Royal’s Tuscarora 50 weekend.”
Additionally, they thanked Justin Sanders for filling in for Reutzel, “Can’t say enough about Justin Sanders and what he’s been able to do for this race team. He jumped in and did a fantastic job and we were privileged to have him!”
Reutzel suffered a broken right foot during a wicked crash at Eldora in the Knight Before The Kings Royal feature on July 18th.
While running in second on lap 15, Reutzel clipped the cushion and then flipped end over end while getting into turn 1. While airborne his wing caught the catch fence and turned the car so it landed on its side. He was then hit by Zach Hampton that lifted Ruetzel’s car airborne. Seconds later Steven Snyder Jr. plowed into him sending his car into the middle of turns 1 and 2.
Reutzel exited the car under his own power, but immediately fell to the ground and began crawling away from his vehicle.
He underwent successful foot surgery with Ridge & Sons Racing reporting on Facebook, “We’re pleased to share that Aaron underwent successful foot surgery yesterday, to repair injuries that he sustained in his accident. The procedure went as planned, and his medical team is optimistic about a smooth and full recovery.”
Reutzel missed multiple High Limit Racing events as well as the Knoxville Nationals. For High Limit, he first missed the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway and then missed the series’ entire west coast swing that began at Thunderbowl Raceway and included stops at Placerville, Silver Dollar Speedway, Douglas County Dirt Track, and Skagit Speedway.
Sanders ran well in place of Reutzel. He had 2 wins, 5 Top 5s, and 7 Top 10s in 10 features. He also kept the Ridge and Sons Racing team in the hunt for the Owner’s Championship. The team is currently just 10 points behind Rico Abreu Racing and has a 25 point advantage over Kasey Kahne Racing and its driver Brad Sweet.
Reutzel’s return will see him 7th in points, 414 behind current leader Rico Abreu. Before he was injured he was just 25 points behind then leader Brad Sweet. He had a 4 point advantage over Abreu.

The Tuscarora 50 is the next race on the High Limit Racing schedule. The 3-day event kicks off on September 4th and goes through September 6th. Hot laps are expected to begin at 6:00 PM local time with racing starting at 7:00 PM.
