Nick Hoffman looked like he was going to be the car to beat in the Group A feature during night 1 of the World 100 at Eldora Speedway.
Hoffman set fast qualifying for Group A with a time of 15.602 seconds. That put him in a 6th place starting spot in Heat 1. Hoffman worked his way to the front and won the heat. The heat win put him on the pole for the feature and it looked like he was going to sweep the night gapping Devin Moran and eventual race winner Dale McDowell. However, his chances at winning the race were railroaded when he made contact with Ethan Dotson while attempting to lap him with 16 laps to go as the two were making their way through turns 1 and 2.
Going into turn 1, Hoffman went down to the bottom to maneuver around Clinton Keenan and potentially Ethan Dotson. While Hoffman was on the bottom, Dotson was running a diamond line off of 2. The two collided exiting the corner as Dotson was coming down the track and Hoffman appeared to hit a rut and his car whipped to the right and up the track. The contact saw Dotson rip off Hoffman’s right front fender and significantly wounded his car.
He did receive a little bit of fortune as the caution came out from the debris from his car just as he was about to get trained by the leader with Moran going past him. With the caution the field was reracked, but Hoffman quickly fell victim to Moran and then a few laps later by Brandon Sheppard and McDowell. He would eventually finish in fifth with Bobby Pierce getting past him later in the race.

Following the conclusion of the race, Hoffman addressed the contact writing on X, “s**t happens. Ran 5th with a modified. Just trying to get back to my roots I guess.”
He added, “Just a racing deal, he was crossing to get back to the bottom and I hit a hole and bottomed out. Part of it. We will rebuild and come at it again tomorrow. Thanks for all the support!”
