Modified driver Charlie Mefford issued an apology after he was arrested in Ohio County, Kentucky for drunk driving on October 1st.
As originally reported by Dirt Behind The Scenes, Mefford was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol as well as improper turning and careless driving. He was arrested at 3:29 a.m. on the morning of October 1st.
Mefford issued an apology on Facebook. He wrote, “I want to begin by sincerely apologizing for the events that occurred Wednesday morning. What happened was completely out of character for me, both as a person and as a racecar driver. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to everyone affected by my actions-I am in no way proud of what took place.”
He added, “This is not a publicity stunt or something to be taken lightly; I am deeply ashamed and disappointed in myself. I want to extend my apologies to my family, friends, sponsors, and supports for the impact of my behavior. Moving forward, I am committed to putting this behind me and focusing on the road ahead, striving to be a better person for myself and those around me. This isn’t an excuse or a sob story-this is the honest truth. I mad a mistake, and I am owning it fully.”
Mefford is expected to be back in action at The Dome. Just a couple of days before the arrest, he shared on Facebook a request for sponsors, “It’s about that time once again! Don’t miss out to be able to advertise your company under the lights of the Gateway Dirt Nationals! We are taking on new sponsors for the event and want your name to be on our car!”
Mefford has had a solid year with the modifieds when he’s run. in 19 feature appearances, he’s won 3, finished in the top 5 nine times and accrued 14 top 10s.
