Max Blair and Terbo Tyler Erb were not happy with each other after they wrecked on the first lap of their heat race ahead on Friday night for the Dirt Track World Championship at Eldora Speedway.

On the start, Max Blair attempted to dive to the bottom of the track, but Tyler Erb was there and the two banged doors as they went down the front stretch. It appeared for a split second that cooler heads would prevail right before they got into turn 1, but Terbo had other ideas and got into the side of Blair sending him around and into the outside wall. Terbo would not escape unscathed and would get collected in the wreck as well with Blair’s car coming to a stop on top of Erb’s. Also collected in the wreck was Michael Leach.

As the two exited their cars the blame game was definitely on as Blair was clearly putting the blame on Terbo while Erb was giving it right back to Blair. And it did not end on the track. After Blair returned to the pits, he told FloRacing’s Ben Shelton, “Terbo’s an idiot. Some day somebody needs to knock his head off. I can’t believe it has happened yet. The dude has wrecked every car in the pit area. He’s an idiot.”

After tempers had cooled and replays were watched, Blair explained why he attempted to dart to the bottom of the track heading down the front stretch. He told DirtonDirt.com’s Kevin Kovac, “It was really hard to start on the top and Devin [Moran] got a really good start. Same thing happened in the first heat, and (outside polesitter) Chris Ferguson kind of turned left down the front stretch and dove under (polesitter) Carson (Ferguson) going into one and got out of the corner behind him. That’s what I was trying to do.”

“I looked left. There was nobody there, so I tried to turn down, and, like I wasn’t even trying to pass Devin,” he continued. “I was more trying to just be second coming out of the (second) corner. And when I felt (Erb), I got off of him, and if you watch a replay, you’ll see that. I got off of him.”

From there Blair admitted Terbo’s anger was reasonable, “And he’s got every right to be upset about the start. The initial contact was my bad, but at that point, the dude lost his mind and junked $100,000 worth of race cars for absolutely no reason, because we were still going to be second and third coming out of the corner. All he had to was just wait a second, and if you want to come b***h at me after the race, come b***h at me after the race. He didn’t need to junk my race car.”

Additionally, he shared that Terbo “never lifted until he was under my feet. And that’s the honest to God truth. He was the whole way under my feet (in the driver’s side door) before his motor stopped turning 10-grand.”

Furthermore, he addressed the criticism he’s facing for his original comments made to Ben Shelton, “I’m not talking about what happened at the flag stand. I’m talking about what happened in turn one. Coming down at the flag stand, sure, my bad. But that could have been resolved afterwards by a, ‘Hey, man, why’d you turn left?’ I would’ve been like, ‘Sorry about that. My bad.’ That’s all that needed to be. It didn’t need to be what this is.”
