Placerville Speedway announced earlier this month that Kyle Larson will not only compete in, but he will also be promoting the Hangtown 100 USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National race.

The Hangtown 100 was originally started by Matt Wood in 20019 and features the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship. The event has evolved over the years into a two-night format. Larson has competed in the event a number of times since the race was started. In fact, he won the inaugural race in 2019. He didn’t just win the inaugural. He would win again in 2023. Other winners of the event include Justin Grant in 2021 and Buddy Kofoid in 2022. The race was canceled last year due to rain and cold temperatures and they did not run in 2020 due to Covid.

On Facebook, the Speedway stated, “Russell Motorsports Inc. is pleased to announce it has entered a partnership with former NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Larson for the annual Hangtown 100 moving forward at Placerville Speedway.”

The event will take place on Friday and Saturday November 14th and 15th with the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midgets being the main show. They will be supported by the Wingless BCRA Lightning Sprints.

Placerville Speedway owner Scott Russell commented on Larson coming on board to promote, “We are excited to continue growing the Hangtown 100 and working with Kyle Larson to make that happen. Matt Wood had the original vision of getting the Hangtown 100 going and I want to thank him for making it possible, because without Matt it wouldn’t have even happened. Moving into the future, he is allowing us to take things over by partnering with Kyle.”

Larson added, “It’s really special to be part of an event that means so much to me. Placerville Speedway is a place where my family and I grew up going to, not just as fans, but to race. Teaming up with Scott and Kami to continue growing this event is incredibly important to me, and I’m excited to not only help promote, but also to compete!”

Larson competed in his first Sprint Car race at Placerville when he was 14 years old back in 2007. He would go on to win his first race at the track later that year. He also won his Golden State KWS-NARC Series title at the track in 2010.

“The Hangtown 100 has been one of the best ideas I’ve ever had. Having someone with Kyle’s passion for the sport and willing to take it to the next level is the best thing that could happen,” said Hangtown 100 founder Matt Wood. “Congrats to Kyle and his team. I am excited to see where the HT 100 ends up.”

Larson is not the only NASCAR driver that the race has attracted. Chase Elliott competed in the race back in 2021. Xfinity Series driver Jesse Love competed in the race in 2023 as did ARCA driver Taylor Reimer. The 2023 race saw a who’s who of dirt car drivers compete including Logan Seavey, Buddy Kofoid, Jade Avedisian, Justin Grant, Spencer Bayston, Cannon McIntosh, Ryan Timms, Carson Macedo, Emerson Axsom, Carson Macedo, Daison Pursley, Corey Day, and more.
