Kyle Larson was one of the dominant cars during the USAC Hangtown 100 at Placerville, but his night came to an end with five laps to go when he was involved in a wreck with Daison Pursley.

Pursley got a huge run coming out of turn 4 and down the front straightaway and was able to pull right up to Larson’s bumper. With the run he attempted to slide Larson heading into turn 1 and dove to the bottom of the track. Unfortunately, he hit the inside of the berm and got into the slick part of the track and his car just wouldn’t stick. He slide up the track and his right rear made contact with Larson’s left front. The contact sent Larson helicoptering across turn 2 and eventually came to a stop on his side.

After exiting his vehicle, Larson expressed his displeasure with Pursley by giving him a sarcastic clap and two thumbs up.

Following the conclusion of the race, Larson spoke to FloRacing about the wreck, “We had a good car, good race going. And Daison must have built a run on the cushion behind me. Surprised me on entry into 1 and then hit the grease. I kinda had nowhere to go so. Just a bummer. I get it just ’cause my entry was closed off so he was going to have to go pull the trigger right there.”

“Just oh well, I guess,” he added. “I wished it wouldn’t have happened. I’m sure he wishes it wouldn’t have happened too.”

Pursley went on to win the race. In victory lane he commented on the wreck, “I just hit the grease. I felt like I had a run on him. And I don’t want to win the race like that.”

Responding to the crowd at Placerville booing him, he said, “Sounds like I gained a whole bunch of friends here, but no, I don’t want to win the race like that. I don’t think I did that intentional, but they seem to think so. But, no, I apologized to Kyle and them. And I know that’s not how I want to race. And I know that’s not how he wants to be raced. It just sucks. I don’t want to even celebrate this. I felt like I was being able to race with him and Corey [Day] both early on.”

“I mean I don’t want to race like that at all, “Pursley reiterated. “I just hate it. I feel like I was just trying super hard. You only get a couple of times where you get to race and almost beat Kyle. Just messed up down there and hit the grease and pushed that little bit and off he went on my right rear. Just hate it.”

He concluded by sharing that he would go talk to Kyle and take his “ass chewing” and emphasized, “Like I said and I’ll say it forever, I don’t want to race anybody like that.”
