World Racing Group CEO Brian Carter explained how he is going to keep the World of Outlaws the best financial option for drivers and teams with the series seeing growing competition from the High Limit Racing series and the newly formed PA Posse 410 Sprint Series.
In an interview with DirtVision’s Conner Wade, Carter said, “It’s the whole package. It’s easy to do math on a point fund or some version of guaranteed money. It’s the additional pieces [that we offer]. We’re going to continue to strive to be the best there too. The point funds, the tow money, the payment to the teams, the protection of the teams and their merchandising, the different pieces. But it’s the iRacing royalties and the investment in socially, and the different pieces that we provide to the teams that the casual fan wouldn’t know. The revenues from trading cards and the different pieces. It’s a whole package. The promotion of their brands. The video presentations that we do at track at these video boards to creating their own persona, putting a face. I hope that there are Sprint Car fans know faces because of DirtVision and the video boards. Those are the pieces way beyond money to the race teams and we continue to be good to them. That’s how we have the guys.”
“And on top of that, the legacy,” he continued. “In my mind, the legacy. They’re going to climb that all times win list. And we’ve got three or four of these guys that can break into the next level of all time wins list. And they can’t do that unless they’re racing with us.”
He then answered a question about if there was anything he can do to reward teams that have stayed loyal to Outlaws since High Limit Racing became a national series and direct competitor, “I continue to try to do that. Again, it’s all those pieces that we’re building around them, helping them build a brand. … David [Grave] is doing a really good job with his social. He understands that the commerce can happen, a lot of commerce can happen away from the racetrack. Relying on prize money alone you’re missing the boat. And a lot of our guys are understanding the business of racing [is] not just prize money and point fund money, it’s all those other pieces.”
“But for me, you know, I want the teams to be really proud be part of the World of Outlaws team,” he added. “And when everybody pulls in the pit area, they’re all World of Outlaws teams. … But up and down the road, it’s again, keeping this successful inside the family and keeping it successful with our racetracks. All that’s balanced in. I want the drivers to be really happy about what we’re building and they share the vision. I want them to share the vision that we do: That we’re going to be Sprint Car racing 25, 30, 40 years from now in front of full grand stands.”
He then went on to share that he increased the point fund by $400,000 “mostly in the top 10. It’s going to be spread out. They’re going to feel good about it.”
“Our tow money is still $1,000 a night for the platinum teams that were there last year. [That’s] all good money. Nobody’s paying that kind of tow money for everybody,” he continued. “The new teams will have a package together. They’ll get some benefits until July 14th. It’s the same it’s been. It’s just enhanced in the points fund.”
Next, he elaborated on the points funds and how he’s changed it, “I closed the gap between first and second in the point funds because I want those guys racing for wins, not points racing. You know, they’re going to points race. We’re not going to change. We’re not going to do something silly to manufacture a chase or some version of that. We’re going to race points racing, but I want them to go for that win. And then points then will be compressed in the top two, three, four guys where they’re running for really great money at that level, but they’re running for wins. That’s what the fans want.”
