Brandon Overton shared new details why he threw his helmet at Bobby Pierce and cussed him out on the final night of the Peach State Classic at Senoia during the FloRacing Night in America race.

With 23 laps left in the 75-lap feature, Overton and Pierce started side by side behind only leader Jonathan Davenport. Pierce attempted to take the second spot and pin Overton down on the bottom. As they went through turns 3 and 4, Overton made contact with Pierce’s car and Hudson O’Neal was able to get by both of them. As Overton went into turn 1, it appeared as if something broke and he hit the wall hard in turn 1. He would get hit by Brandon Sheppard and Cody Overton. Trey Mills would seemingly avoid Overton, but t-boned his brother Cody as he took evasive action to try and avoid his brother.

After he exited his car, Overton threw his helmet at Bobby Pierce making contact with Pierce’s door. He then collected his helmet and confronted Pierce in the hot pit as he was getting his tire changed. Overton learned into Pierce’s window and gave him a piece of his mind. He can be heard saying, “As soon as I [inaudible] I’m going to f*** you up. Don’t you f***ing [inaudible].” He also smacked Pierce on the head.

In an appearance on The Dirt Parlor Podcast with hosts Gordy Gundaker and Don Martin, Overton first noted how bad he was on Friday night where he eventually finished in 19th, but had worked on the car and made vast improvements for Saturday and was obviously running in the top three. Next, he broke down the restart and the contact with Pierce, “We had that restart and I chose the bottom. … I was thinking should I give [Bobby] the bottom or whatever? And I’m like, ‘No, … I’m just going to choose the bottom, [and] don’t do anything stupid ’cause I knew all he had to do was just half ass me near the front. So choose the bottom. We fire up and [Davenport] kind of comes down the hill, kind of checks me up a little bit. Bobby gets a good run. Like I don’t even attempt to slide him. I just go in there, ease off, roll the middle, and try to get enough speed to slide my way back into three to come back out in third or whatever.”

“So I felt like I leave him a lane,” he continued. “I don’t do anything stupid. Like I don’t crowd him at all. And then we go into three. And it’s hard to tell. That video that they keep showing and everybody keeps acting like I drill him in the ass. It’s hard to look at. That’s not the way it looks when you’re in the car. Like we get to the back pit gate opening and he hangs a left. The reason he didn’t keep coming was because I was there, you know. I don’t know if he felt me a little bit and tries to get away, but it’s already got me so crossed up. I’m sliding. I hit him in the left rear. You can’t tell how it is. Like it knocks the steering wheel around. I’m trying not to spin out. I fly up the hill. It looks like I try to spin him out. I didn’t try to spin him out. I’m trying for me not to spin out. So I fly up the hill.”

“Get it all gathered and I go into one and I’m kind of mad there because like, ‘Why in the [expletive] would you do that?’ Go into one and the tire goes flat and I smash it into the fence. And it hurts.”

After explaining what happened between him and Pierce in turns 3 and 4 as well as the wreck in turn 1, Overton then shared why he threw his helmet at Pierce, “So I get it all calmed down or halfway calmed down. I just want to get out. … Like I can barely get out of my car. The left side is so smashed up. They push it down. I get out and I was talking to myself like, ‘Calm down. Calm down.’ And then he comes driving by and I’m like, ‘Why not?’ That’s what I said. I’m so mad and aggravated. And it’s nothing against Bobby. He just happened to crank that car up and drive by me. And I’ve had a [expletive] year and every bad night and everything was just all on my mind at that point. And he come driving by, I’m like, ‘Hell yeah!'”

“I know I shouldn’t act like that and I don’t act like that and I’m not proud I did that,” he added. “It’s like what am I supposed to do? My emotions come out a little bit. I didn’t do anything crazy. I didn’t put anybody in danger, you know what I mean? I just [expletive]. I was mad. So I slung my helmet. That’s all there is to it.”

As for his confrontation with Pierce in the pits, Overton said, “I was going to the pits. I didn’t think he would-. I walk in the pits and there he is again. They’re changing his tires. I’m like, ‘Well, I would like to say something and finish getting it all out of my system. So, then I say something and I mean he’s got his helmet on. I’m not punching him. I’m not trying to beat him up. I want him to know I’m mad. ‘Don’t be a dumbass. You’re good. Don’t do that.’ I always say you race people how you want to be raced. I don’t think anybody that we race with can say, ‘Man, Brandon Overton is lined up beside me. He’s probably gonna smash me in the fence.’ Like I said I want everybody to race me hard. That’s what we’re doing, but don’t do moves like that. It’s hard to explain if you don’t race and you don’t know what I’m feeling when we’re in there.”

“It’s just a lot of stuff added up that point. It wasn’t just that time,” Overton said. “And probably everybody forgot, I was pretty fast at Knoxville and Bobby missed the bottom and comes back down the hill and I hit him in the left rear at Knoxville and flattened my tire and it wiped that car out too. So that was twice. [Expletive’s] adding up. I just needed to get it out. Like 10 minutes after that, I’m at my trailer loading up and I am totally fine. I’m happy. I felt so good to just get it all out. I felt good. Could relax.”

Back in September on the final night of the Knoxville Nationals less than 5 laps into the race, Overton’s car was junked. He told FloRacing’s Ben Shelton in the hot pits, “Bobby missed the bottom and come back down and we just met. I don’t know if it knocked the flopper under or what, but I think most of the damage come from I couldn’t steer and ran into the damn wall and then everybody just have nowhere to go and run into me.”

Overton would later reiterate, “Just a [expletive] deal. And like I said, it’s nothing against Bobby. It’s just he happened to be the one that it that day and I was just aggravated.”

“He does, I got to tell ya one thing, he’s got a hell of a fan base, boy. They are in my ass right now. So yeah, I see them. But what do you do? It’ll be all right,” he stated.

He concluded by joking about the helmet toss, “After all this, I was thinking, ‘Good thing I didn’t miss or something because they really would have been roasting my ass. Like, ‘Oh, he can’t drive and he can’t throw. What the hell?!?”
