The drama ramped up on Friday night during the Gateway Dirt Nationals during especially during the feature. Hudson O’Neal expressed his displeasure with Mark Whitener after he was fenced and then shredded a tire ending his night.

A little over 10 laps into the 25-lap race, O’Neal threw a slider on Whitener in turns 1 and 2 and was able to clear him, but Whitener crossed him over, and then smashed O’Neal into the fence as they were coming off the corner. After the contact, O’Neal’s tire would shred and his night would end as he brought the car into the infield.

After another caution involving Brenden Smith fencing Kyle Bronson, O’Neal expressed his displeasure telling FloRacing, “I didn’t really get a chance to show my displeasure, but a bunch of idiots. [Expletive] for brains. We’re right front to right front going down the back straightaway and it’s just hard right. Destroyed race car. He probably would have still ran good. I don’t know what the deal is, man.”

“We love the Dome and we love coming here, but we hate stuff like that. And it seems to happen every year I come here. Oh well, we’ll see if it’s fixable and if it is be back tomorrow and try to put on a show.”

Bronson then shared his displeasure again with Brenden Smith and was then prompted by FloRacing’s Chris Moore to have both him and O’Neal blow some steam off together. Bronson didn’t need any more encouragement and immediately lifted O’Neal and gave him a little spin before setting him back down.

Whitener went on to finish second and told FloRacing during his podium interview, “When I come off the corner he was on the outside and I kind of let it hang a little bit and he took me with him. We didn’t hit hard. We just got together and he was in the fence and I was into him. This is the Dome. I don’t know what to tell him. I didn’t come to make friends. I brought mine. … This is the Dome. We putting on a show. This is an event and I’m here to put on one.”
