Ricky Thornton Jr. will compete in a second Adam Family Motorsports car at Central Arizona Raceway for the Wild West Shootout.
In a press release posted to Facebook, Adam Family Motorsports shared, “Ricky Thornton Jr. to pilot second Adam Family Motorsports car at the Wild West Shootout at Central Arizona Raceway!!”
“RTJ will pilot our Longhorn Chassis late model,” the team added. “Daniel Adam will be in our Rocket XR2 Chassis powered by Cornett Racing Engines Ford power.”
Additionally, the team clarified, “This is just for the Wild West Shootout. Ricky and Bobby Koehler, owner of Koehler Motorsports, are both great friends of Adam Family Motorsports and team owner Joe Adam.”
Thornton also shared the announcement and added, “Thank you to the Adams family for letting [me] drive their equipment.”
As noted above, the Wild West Shootout takes place at Central Arizona Raceway this year after being held at Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico the last couple of years. It kicks off on January 9th with an open practice session. Racing begins on January 10th and continues through the 11th. The track takes a night off on the 12th and the 13th is another practice night. Racing is back on tap on the 14th. The 15th is another off night. They then finish the event with racing action from the 16th through the 18th.
Thornton is also slated to compete in the upcoming Chili Bowl Nationals at the Tulsa Expo Center. The Chili Bowl begins on January 12th and runs the entire week with a Championship Saturday taking place on January 17th.
It’s possible Thornton could miss two races depending on what day his qualifying night is for the Chili Bowl. It’s also likely that he would miss out on the Wild West Shootout’s race on the 17th if he performs well during his qualifying night and has a chance to make the A-Main and is not too deep in the alphabet soup on Saturday.
The reason being is hHornton recently shared that he values a Chili Bowl Golden Driller over a World 100 Globe. He explained to FloRacing, “I know the late model guys are going to hate me. I feel like the Golden Driller. But the Golden Driller would have to be from the Chili Bowl.”
“I feel like that’s the highest point in our sport. You get every driver there from every different series. It doesn’t matter if it’s asphalt, dirt, rally cross, super cross, whatever, drag racing,” he explained. “I feel like Chili Bowl’s probably the highest.”
