Three-time CARS Tour champion Bobby McCarty announced he will not race for R&S Race Cars moving forward, but promised his racing career is not over and that “big news” is “coming soon.”
McCarty announced he was departing R&S Race Cars in a post to Facebook.
He wrote, “After a significant chapter in my racing career, I am announcing my departure from R&S Racecars. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at R&S for their hard work, dedication, and commitment. The experience and friendships formed with the team are something I will always value.”
McCarty added, “This decision does not signal the end of my racing journey. In fact, my career is far from over, and I am already gearing up for what’s to come in 2025. The future holds new opportunities, and I can’t wait to get back on track and continue pursuing my passion for racing.”
“Thank you to all my supporters for standing by me, and I look forward to exciting times ahead,” he concluded.
In a subsequent post to Facebook, McCarty teased, “Big News Coming Soon! Next week, I’ll be sharing my racing plans for the 2025 season, and I can’t wait to let you all in on what’s ahead. It’s been an exciting time preparing for the next chapter, and I’m pumped about what’s to come!”
He added, “Make sure to stay tuned – you won’t want to miss this announcement!”
R&S Race Cars co-owner Marcus Richmond indicated that McCarty’s departure has do with funding the team.
He wrote on Facebook, “I want to thank Bobby McCarty myself he has been more than just a driver to me and my family. Unfortunately funding these late models has become hard in the last year. I wish nothing but the best of luck in his career.”
Ahead of the 2024 season, McCarty shared that he had lost a major partner and that if he did not find additional support his CARS Tour career might be over.
He wrote at the time, “I’m not one to usually post stuff like this on here but desperate times call for desperate measures. Everyone knows racing is expensive and I’ve been very fortunate to have great partners throughout the years to keep going. At the end of this past season I lost a major partner and if I don’t find any partners unfortunately my career will be over.”
“I’m a mechanic at a small mom and pop shop so there is no back up plan for me,” he continued. “If you would please share and help me get the word out that I’m needing help. I have a lot of years left in me and I know next year we can compete for another championship. Thank you.”
McCarty sits in 8th position in points with the CARS Tour heading into its series finale at North Wilkesboro while only competing in 13 of the 16 races that have been run.
In those 13 races he nabbed two poles, a win at New River All-American Speedway, 3 Top 5s, and 7 Top 10s. He had an average finish of 11.69.
McCarty won the CARS Tour Championship in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
