Brandon Sheppard shared an update on the oil pan issue his primary car suffered that ended his opening night at the Wild West Shootout.

On opening night, Sheppard qualified 10th in group 1, started his heat race in fifth, moved up two spots to finish in third and advance to the feature. He started it in 11th place and had stayed around there when the caution came out 15 laps into the 50-lap feature.

While he wasn’t the cause of the caution, he brought his car to the hot pit and informed FloRacing’s pit reporter Trenton Berry that he had an leak oil, Berry shared on the broadcast, “Said he’s leaking oil out of the front of the oil pan. And there’s definitely some oil all over the front of this thing. They are done for the night.”

In a post to Facebook, Sheppard and his team shared more details, “Unfortunately tonight, we blew the front seal out of the oil pan. A tough break for our family-owned team, but we’re thankful a caution came out and that BP32 let us know we were smoking, allowing us to catch it before the motor was completely cooked.”

“We’ll get the motor changed tonight and go back at it tomorrow,” he declared. “Not the way we wanted to start the season, but we’ll be back swinging.”

However, the team did not get the motor changed, but instead opted to run the backup car on Sunday night, where he brought it home 11th after starting in 18th. Given that they did not change out the engine on Saturday night that left it to Monday.

Sheppard explained in a post to Facebook, “Opted not to change the motor the other night and rolled with the backup car instead, which means today is alottttta work.”

“Motor swap. Maintenance. Tear down, clean up, and prep on both cars,” he said. “This is the grind nobody sees, but it’s what keeps us rolling. Head down. Hands dirty. Back after it.”

The Wild West Shootout is back in action on Wednesday, January 14th. Hot laps are expected to begin at 3:30 pm MT for the third night of six in the miniseries.
