Ricky Thornton Jr. shared his plans for this weekend and revealed he will not compete in the finale of the Wild West Shootout on Sunday.

Thornton shared in a Facebook post, that he’ll be participating in the Chili Bowl Nationals Soup run and is aiming to lap up four bowls of soup today and moving into tonight.

Thornton will start seventh in D-Feature 2 where the top five will advance to the C-Feature. He’ll be going up against Caleb Stelzig, Chase Randall, Dillon Welch, Jack Berger, Brecken Reese, Jake Neuman, Zach Hampton, Chris Andrews, Kalib Henry, Austin Torgerson, Parker Price Miller, Alex Sewell, Franke Guerini, Kyle Simon, and the five drivers who will advance from the E-feature.

As far as returning to the Wild West Shootout, Thornton and his team said, “As tempting as it was to head back to the Wild West Shootout for tomorrow, we need to prioritize getting back to the shop to help our guys.”

“We are leaving tomorrow night to have a meet & greet with one of our incredible partners- Knights Companies, before two days of testing on the way to Volusia,” they concluded.

As Thornton and his team shared, his next stop will be Volusia Speedway Park for the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals. Thornton shared an upcoming events calendar earlier this month noting he’ll be at Volusia from the 21st through the 24th with his late model and the Koehler Motorsports team. The DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals begins on the 21st with a practice day and then three nights of racing on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.

After a brief respite he’ll be back at the track from the 29th through the 31st in his modified for the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals. The modified will be competing alongside the American Sprint Car Series National Tour.

Finally, after a day’s rest at the beginning of February, he’s back on track at Volusia on February 2nd through the 7th in the modified, where they’ll be competing alongside the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars.

While he hasn’t officially announced where he’ll be following February 7th, it’s likely he’ll stay at Volusia as the World of Outlaws Late Models return to the track on February 9th and compete through the February 14th.

He’ll then head to All-Tech Raceway on February 18th for a practice night before the Lucas Oil Late Model Series kicks off its season with its first race at the track on the 19th. They’ll race there again on the 20th and 21st before heading to Ocala with racing action taking place from the 24th through 28th.

There’s hardly a break as the Lucas Oil series heads north to Golden Isles Speedway with racing from March 4th through the 7th.
