Chris Madden and his Wells Motorsports team shared Madden suffered a battery issue that caused him to come up slow on lap 19 of the 35 lap feature.

Madden was in a heated battle for second place alongside Brandon Overton and Brandon Sheppard that had lasted a number of laps. However, on lap 19, Madden slowed through the middle of turns 3 and 4 and eventually came to a stop at the exit of turn 4 and bringing out the Dave Warren Powersports caution.

In a post to Facebook, Wells Motorsports recapped their night last night sharing, “Our Wells Motorsports-Backed Infinity Chassis supported by Millwood Plumbing and Henderson Amusement collected a DNF in last nights 35-lap, $12,000 to win feature event after running on the second position!”

“Chris Madden opened the night by setting Quick Time overall, earning the pole position for Heat 3. He jumped out early and picked up the heat race win, then redrew the No. 3 pill,” the team continued. “Starting third in the feature, Chris was charging toward the lead when a battery issue forced him to retire early from the event!”

It appears that the team was able to diagnose the problem and get it fixed as it also shared, “Tune in tonight on watchdirtvision to catch the finale!”

Despite the disappointing DNF in the feature last night, Madden will have another shot at the $20,000 to-win, 50-lap feature tonight and he’s arguably the favorite given his speed and performance the past two nights. However, other driver have been making significant gains and shown they can compete with him. Hudson O’Neal rallied from a catastrophic flat tire that derailed his opening night to put on a pretty dominating performance last night. Terbo Tyler Erb has also shown significant speed. He also overcame adversity, recovering from an engine issue that forced him to a backup car on night 1. He was able to salvage a top 10 and then went on to finish second last night to O’Neal.

Other drivers and teams that have looked good the first two nights include Tim McCreadie, Brandon Sheppard, Nick Hoffman, Max Blair, and Ricky Thornton Jr. You also can’t count out defending World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Bobby Pierce. While his first two nights have resulted in 9th and 10th places, he charged through the field last night moving up thirteen spots to get the 10th place finish. If he can get his qualifying and heat race performance squared away, look for him to be a threat.

Hot laps for the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals are expected to begin at 4:00 PM. All the action can be seen on DirtVision.
