The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series announced that its opening races at Needmore Speedway and Swainsboro Raceway are still on, but they’ve adjusted the schedule at Needmore and made all four races non-points races due to the cold weather impacting the area.

In a post to social media, the series announced that it will race as planned, but they are adjusting the schedule at Needmore. The Friday portion of the program will continue as previously scheduled, but the Saturday portion will be moved into the daytime. The series shared, “At this time, with a favorable forecast for Friday, we are moving forward with the event as scheduled and will continue to closely monitor temperature and weather trends for Saturday. Saturday’s planned start times have been shifted into the daytime with hot laps starting at 1 pm and racing starting at 2.”

There are no changes to the schedule for Swainsboro at this time, “As of now, the Swainsboro portion of the South Georgia Showdown remains on as scheduled.”

On top of the schedule change at Needmore on Saturday, the series also announced that none of these four races will be points paying races. The series explained, “Due to the weather concerns facing the event, the South Georgia Showdown will be contested as a non-points event for the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.”

“Instead of being points races, a paid provisional starting spot will be added to the first points race of the season and will be awarded to the HTF Series Loyalty Program driver with the best finishing position in any of the completed South Georgia Showdown races who does not qualify for the feature lineup,” the series elaborated. “The HTF Series championship chase will now officially begin Sunday, March 22, at Talladega Short Track’s $12,000-to-win Bama Bash.”

It is unclear who all is expected to attend the first portion of the South Georgia Showdown as The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series has not released a tentative entry list and it appears that a a number of teams indicated they wouldn’t be making the trip due to the inclement weather that is still affecting large swaths of the southeast.

The Associated Press reported on January 25th that “about a million homes and businesses in the Southeast were left without electricity.” PowerOutage.us currently reports that there are still nearly 400,000 people across the United States who are without power. Specifically, it notes that nearly 130,000 in Tennessee, about 115,000 in Mississippi, and over 70,000 in Louisiana are without power.

One driver that will be at Needmore is Coltman Farms Racing development driver Luke Morey. The team announced on Facebook following The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series’ announcement, “Our Coltman Farms Racing team and driver Luke Morey will kick off their 2026 season this weekend with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.”

Mark Whitener is also planning to make the trip.

Josh Rice also shared that he and his JRR Motorsports team will be making the trip to Needmore.
