The Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series announced late on Friday night that it was canceling the rest of its South Georgia Showdown events at Needmore Speedway and Swainsboro Raceway due to inclement weather.
Following Brandon Overton’s win at Needmore Speedway on Friday night, the series announced, “that the remainder of the South Georgia Showdown has been canceled due to increasingly severe winter weather forecasts across Georgia and much of the Southeast.”
“Forecasts are calling for a winter storm to move into the region beginning Saturday, with the potential for significant snow accumulation in parts of Georgia and surrounding states, followed by freezing temperatures expected to persist through Sunday and Monday,” they explained. “With the safety of race teams, fans, officials, and track staff as the top priority, and with travel conditions expected to become hazardous throughout the Southeast, officials determined that continuing the event would not be feasible.”

The series had previously announced that the four South Georgia Showdown races would no longer count towards the series’ championship due to the cold weather conditions expected this weekend and the beginning of next week when it was expected to head to Swainsboro. The four races were originally supposed to be points paying races with each driver’s best finish of the four races counting toward the championship.
While these four races were made non-points races, the series did previously share, “Instead of being points races, a paid provisional starting spot will be added to the first points race of the season and will be awarded to the HTF Series Loyalty Program driver with the best finishing position in any of the completed South Georgia Showdown races who does not qualify for the feature lineup.”
