Brandon Overton took home his second win of the season in as many races during the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series opener at Screven Motor Sports Complex.

Overton started the night off strong. He set fast time overall with a lap of 14.593 in Group B. That put him on the pole in Heat 3, which he easily won. He started the feature on the pole and led the entire way although he faced a number of significant challenges.

First, he had to survive a number of early race cautions that involved Beckham Malone, Brian Shirley, who was running third at the time, and Daulton Wilson.

Next, he faced a significant challenge from John Henderson who had really found a great line coming out of turn 2. Unfortunately, for Henderson he would suffer a right flat tire with 23 to to in the 40-lap feature and then would get caught up in a 6-car wreck on a restart halfway through the race.

After that big pileup, Ross Bailes was able to quickly track Overton down and looked like he might be able to take advantage of lap traffic to make a move around him. However, Bailes fell victim to the lap traffic when he collided with Chris Woods in the middle of turns 3 and 4 with 10 laps left in the race.

Finally, with Bailes knocked out of contention, Overton sailed away on the final restart to claim his second win in as many races and pocketed another $10,000.

In victory lane, Brandon Overton said, “It always feels to come back and win. Home sweet home. Back in Georgia. Red dirt. Like I said last week we should be good at this.”

“Honestly, I was worried. I know I had the right tire on for the end of the race, but I kept seeing all the guys with the soft tires poking at me on the starts. Our car was good enough to hold on. Just want to thank my crew. They’ve been busting their butt.”
