Jonathan Davenport will be competing in seven races with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series during the Florida-Georgia Speedweeks,

It was initially reported by FloRacing in the middle of January that Davenport was not planning on racing during Speedweeks. The outlet’s Kevin Kovac shared, “Georgia-Florida Speedweeks action isn’t even on Davenport’s agenda at the moment, though he might end up entering a few races.”

About two weeks later at the end of January, Davenport announced his tentative schedule for Speedweeks. In a post to Facebook, he shared, “Jonathan Davenport and Double L Motorsports have their sights set on 7 races during the Wieland Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series from February 26-March 7.”

“Make plans to join us at both Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala Speedway) and Golden Isles Speedway or watch every lap LIVE on FloRacing!”

His trip to Florida begins on February 26th at Ocala Speedway. He’ll be there the next two night through February 28th. He’ll then travel north to Golden Isles Speedway for four nights of racing from March 4-7.

As for why he decided to add these races to his schedule, Justin Fiedler at Dirtrackr explained that it was initially a call from Ocala Speedway owner Bubba Clem, “Clem called Davenport  to ask him to race the event, and JD said he wanted to bring his merch trailer and wanted a provisional available if he missed the feature. Those were essentially his two requirements for coming to run the event. Clem then made sure to confirm that he actually had a provisional to give. He did that in a call to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series director Rick Schwallie. After confirming that the provisional was available, he called JD back to get everything finalized.”

He later added, “Clem did point out that Davenport did not ask for any appearance money.”
