Nick Hoffman outdueled Bobby Pierce to take home the Swamp Cabbage 100 finale to get his third win of the season in just 8 races.

The race looked like it was going to be similar to last night with Bobby Pierce quickly working his way to the lead after starting in sixth. He got to the point on the sixth lap of the race. However, Nick Hoffman caught him a little bit unawares and was able to slip underneath and take the lead about 10 laps later around lap 15.

Hoffman would maintain the lead through a number of cautions for Eli Johnson and Tim McCreadie. After the caution for McCreadie, the race had another green flag run and Pierce was able to challenge for the lead and actually reclaimed it briefly on lap 54 as Hoffman got caught up in lap traffic.

The two had a great little battle with Pierce seemingly snookering Hoffman at one point to get him to move up the track so he could dive underneath him as the bottom appeared to be the dominant groove at the time. However, Hoffman was able to wrestle the lead back from Pierce a lap later. He was then gifted a caution for Tristan Chamberlain, who suffered a right rear flat tire.

On the ensuing restart, Hoffman hugged the bottom while Pierce ripped the lip at the top, and while he was able to challenge Hoffman, he just didn’t have enough and Hoffman was able to hold him off and claim the win.

In victory lane, Hoffman said, “If [Bobby Pierce] was going to get it he was going to have earn it. I just knew the bottom was starting to clean up and getting pretty good so he threw caution to the wind and was going for it. I knew I had to six pretty good laps there. I thought I’d be able to hold him off, but he just kept inching closer. I could watch that video board and see him inch closer and closer.”

“I did not have this on my bingo card, I can tell you that,” he continued. “I had to resort back to some of those [expletive]holes I’ve been to on the Hell Tour. This place was really good. I had my doubts, I will say, but tonight’s track, [the] racing surface was great. Had a little bit of character, but I felt like that’s what evened it out a little bit. I didn’t plan on this, I can tell you that.”

“This is badass,” he added. “It’s been an awesome week. It’s badass.”

As for Bobby Pierce, he said, “I was just playing catchup at that point. We really missed our opportunity. when Nick caught me and passed me, we really missed our opportunity. I was kind of still driving like a Sunday cruise and next thing I know he’s under me. You’ll have that, but-.

“Kinda missed the cautions coming out [at] the wrong time,” Pierce continued. “Nick jumped the cushion. Caution came out. Another time I was on him, a caution came out. But nonetheless we should have never lost the lead if I was on the gas harder. It’s on me. It’s on us.”

“Congrats to him on the win. It was a fun race at then. Gave it all I had. It was there. The bottom was getting slicker. It was getting harder to run. Tires going away. I knew he was struggling. I made the decision to send it on the top on the last restart. It almost worked out. So I’m just glad we were able to put on the show. Second’s really good, but, of course, I was going hard for the win. I was just glad it was a good show,” he concluded.
