Max Blair has found success at Golden Isles Speedway early this week with two straight top 5s, but he shared what he needs to do in order to get on the podium and eventually take home a win.

Following his second straight fifth place finish on Thursday night, Blair spoke with Richard Allen of Motorsports Report, “We’ve been good come feature time, but we really need to qualify better. If we could start 5th rather than 12th maybe we could have a little bit there at the end for them.”

When asked what he needs to do in order to improve in qualifying, he shared, “If I knew we’d be doing it, right? I have no idea. We’ll keep trying.”

To Blair’s point, he qualified 10th in Group B on Wednesday night. That had him start 5th in Heat 4. He was able to move up two spots to finish third. That gave him a 12th starting position in the feature. He then moved up 7 spots to finish 5th.

Similarly, on Thursday night he qualified 12th in Group A. That put him starting 6th in Heat 2. Like Wednesday night, he was able to work his way up and he finished 3rd. He started 11th and was able to get the fifth place finish.

Additionally, Jonathan Davenport, who has won both nights has started at the front On Wednesday, he qualified 9th in Group A. That put him 5th in Heat 1. However, he was able to win the heat and start on the pole. On Thursday, Davenport qualified 5th in Group. He started third in Heat 1, but went on to win it and, again, started on the pole.

With Blair’s success at Golden Isles Speedway, he’s sitting 7th in points with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. He’s 290 points behind current leader Hudson O’Neal. Blair will have two more opportunities to improve at Golden Isles Speedway with racing action taking place tonight, March 6th, and tomorrow, March 7th.
