Logan Zarin shared his perspective on what happened that led to the massive wreck between Brandon Overton and Dennis Erb Jr. during the end of the World of Outlaws race at Smoky Mountain on Saturday night.
With two laps to go, Zarin and Dennis Erb Jr. got together that left Dennis Erb Jr. stopped in the middle of the track. With nowhere to go and not knowing that Erb was stopped in front of him, race leader Brandon Overton slammed right into the side of him. The contact was so hard Erb’s car was lifted up into the air and spun around. The wreck also involved Chris Madden as Overton’s car clipped his as he spun around sending him spinning off the track. Additionally, Sam Seawright was also involved as Erb’s car hit him in the rear after Overton smashed into him.
Following the race, Stock Car Report spoke with Logan Zarin about what happened given Dennis Erb Jr. had marched down to Zarin’s car and gave him an earful after he exited his car.
Zarin said, “I was just riding that top there, ten laps straight. I never changed my line. And then I see Dennis run the middle, bottom so I went to the top to get around him and he shot up to the wall. Just sucks.”
“I was on the brakes,” he added. “Obviously, he doesn’t think so, but I was on the brakes. I’m not here to turn anybody or anything. It’s racing it’s going to happen. It just sucks I had to be a part of it. I’m not here to spin anybody out or wreck anybody.”
When asked if he would do anything different, Zarin shared, “I was in the brakes as hard as I could be in the brakes. I’m not trying to wreck Dennis Erb. Jr. He’s a nice guy. I really couldn’t have done anything different. I tried to cut underneath him, hit the brakes, you name it. Just stuff happens.”
Zarin finished 14th after starting in 20th. He’ll be back in action with the World of Outlaws as they head to Mississippi for a doubleheader at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Friday, March 20th and Saturday, March 21st.
