Dominion Raceway in Woodford, Virginia, which has been home to some of the most competitive late model stock car racing throughout the Mid Atlantic region over the last decade, is rumored to be scrapping the division for the 2025 season.

A source informed Stock Car Report that the division “will be done” and that the primary late model division for the track will be the VA Racer division.

The source added that throughout 2024 the car count for the late model stock car division was extraordinarily low and it just was not “enough to justify a race.”

To that point, only 22 drivers competed in a late model throughout the entire season and the division only had a total of six nights of racing. Many of the nights only had around 10 cars start.

Bolstering this rumor is the fact that Dominion Raceway appears to be aggressively pursuing other series to race at the track. At the beginning of November, the track announced that the CARS Tour Pro Late Models will finally be joining the CARS Tour Late Model Stock division on June 14, 2025 for the Mini’s Mission 125. Previously, the Pro Late Models did not make the trek north to Dominion with the Late Model Stock division.

The track also revealed that it will welcome the ASA Stars National Tour on April 5th as part of the tour’s 12-race schedule for 2025.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it does have the possibility of shaking up the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series National Championship chase. Typically, the national champion comes out of the Late Model Stock Car division with Connor Hall winning the past two years. Before Hall, Layne Riggs won in 2022, Peyton Sellers won in 2021, and Josh Berry won in 2020.

However, it’s quite possible that a champion could come out of the VA Racer division given it will be the top division at Dominion Raceway and qualify for Division I points for the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. Not only is it likely the VA Racer division will be the top division at Dominion Raceway, but the car counts are expected to be high with the possibility of a 30 car field on opening night.

The series had 21 total drivers compete in six events throughout 2024, but each event typically had around 16 or 17 cars start. The smallest field was 11 cars.
