Bubba Wallace revealed what the pettiest thing that annoys him on a race weekend is.

In an interview with Jeff Gluck for The Athletic, Wallace was asked, “What is the pettiest thing that annoys you during a race weekend?”

He responded, “What’s annoying is the mad dash at short tracks when it’s choose time. At Martinsville, we’re rushing to get all the cars through. Why not do two laps to go? Bristol, same thing. Why are we rushing? … Like when we’ve had to restart in the back, I’m in third gear, fourth gear going into (Turn) 3 just trying to catch up.”

Wallace suggested using the caution laps that are already built into the stage breaks to accomplish this when Gluck suggested NASCAR might add caution laps to correct the problem, “We already run 15! … at least do something productive inside those 15. (Laughs.)”

While the choose at short tracks was his top annoyance. He also shared his frustration with where its done at road courses, “And then the choose cone being so close to the start/finish line at road courses — COTA, Sonoma — there are different straightaways we could use. We wait until the last little bit, and that’s it.”

Last year, Wallace was penalized at COTA for running over the choose cone. His spotter Freddie Kraft roasted him on Door Bumper Clear following the incident saying, “We were right there, we pitted on that last yellow, put tires on, we were 20th or 21st. I think we probably easily would have drove to the top 10. Unfortunately, he hit the damn choose cone, which I don’t know how the [expletive] that happens. He couldn’t see it I guess with the glare. I don’t know if the glare was bad for anybody else.

“But then just kind of compound some mistakes and got behind, spun out in the last lap. Still a good day for us, 30 points. I think we had top 10 points on the day. So it’s a good day for us, but it could have been a lot better for sure,” he concluded.

Wallace currently sits 12th in points. He’s 208 points behind his teammate and current points leader Tyler Reddick. He finished 36th this past weekend at Talladega after he wrecked while leading the race. He put part of the blame on himself saying, “Just hate it. Hate it for Xfinity. Hate it for our team. Don’t want to have any DNFs. We’ve got two now. It’s a bummer. But we got to figure out how to be pushed better. So I take responsibility on that. We’ll have a good debrief and figure out what we can do to make our Toyotas a little bit better being pushed. And maybe not have that happen.”
