Shark Racing shared more details on why it has decided to shut down its 1A team that had been piloted by Ashton Torgerson.

Following the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race at Lincoln in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, May 5th, Torgerson shared that the team was shutting down. He wrote on Facebook, ““This is a hard post for me to make, but effective immediately, Jacob Allen has made the decision to park the team.”

“I’m incredibly bummed, but more than anything, I’m thankful,” he continued. “I can’t thank Bobby Allen and Jacob enough for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime — the chance to wheel the legendary Shark Racing 1A and chase my dream at the highest level. Together, we made memories I’ll carry forever, shared a lot of laughs, and had some incredibly fast race cars along the way. For that, I’ll always be grateful. To my crew, sponsors, fans, and everyone who believed in me through this journey — thank you for standing behind us every step of the way. Your support meant everything.”

After Torgerson’s announcement that Allen was parking the team, his sister Dana shared more details as to why. She wrote in a post to Facebook that was subsequently shared by the Shark Racing team, “There’s been a lot of talk on social media today, so let’s clear a few things up. My brother has made the decision to park his team, the 1a, for now. That decision comes from real life — from loss, from responsibility, and from navigating something no one is ever truly prepared for.”

“This is not the end. There has been no talk of selling, and anyone saying otherwise is simply wrong,” she continued. “Our dad built something incredible. He gave my brother and my son an amazing opportunity— and together, they built Shark Racing. That legacy isn’t going anywhere. Everyone handles grief differently. Social media doesn’t always show the weight people are carrying behind the scenes. We’re a family first. Always have been. Always will be.”

She concluded, “Not everything needs to be debated or decided from the outside.”

Shark Racing founder and Jacob Allen’s father, Bobby “Scruffy” Allen passed away in October at the age of 81. The team made the announcement on October 6th in a post to X, “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our beloved Bobby “Scruffy” Allen. Our hearts are broken but we know he lived his life to the fullest and touched so many. Anyone that ever got to meet him or know him always got to share a story and/or a smile.”

The team and family announced that a Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, May 12th in the Hanover area, “Bobby’s (Scruffy’s) Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the Hanover area. More details will be shared as plans come together, but we wanted to get the date out so everyone can plan accordingly.”
