Camaron Marlar called on the Southern Nationals to be consistent with its rulings after he and Kyle Strickler lost their leading positions during the race at Lake Cumberland on Saturday night.
With 32 laps left in the 53-lap feature, Alex Vance spun in the middle of turns 3 and 4 while Mike Marlar was working around him. As Vance spun in the corner, Kaede Loudy made contact with him and he ended up spinning and facing the wrong direction. The caution would come out and Garrett Smith and Jaden Frame would be able to get around both Loudy and Vance, but Benji Hicks spun and made contact with Loudy. The entire top side of the track would be blocked by Hicks’ spun car and he would collect Oakley Johns. With nowhere to go, both Strickler, who was leading the race, and Marlar, who was in second, spun to avoid smashing into the road block of cars.
Track officials would rule that Strickler and Marlar were both involved in the caution and be sent to the rear of the field. Strickler would end up finishing the race in 14th after he brought his car in with 24 laps left in the race. Marlar would finish in 7th, but he never sniffed the front the rest of the race.
On Facebook, he called for consistency from Spring Nationals officials. He wrote on Facebook, “Hate being this person but Southern Nationals Series needs to get base set of rules and stick to them. First video, chain reaction, Chilton (11) gets his spot back. Second video. Tracks obviously blocked, they didn’t call caution on the radio till we are entering 3 on the cushion. Stricker and myself to the rear.
“Pretty similar situations, two different calls,” he concluded.
To be clear, the first video is from the same event at Lake Cumberland Speedway. It takes place during the first heat race when Benji Hicks got into Camaron Marlar heading through turn 3. That contact would send Hicks around and then Michael Chilton had nowhere to go and slammed into the side of him. Chilton was moved to the third position on the next restart and was not sent to the rear despite making contact with Hicks.
The second video showcases what happened during the feature where both Strickler and Marlar had nowhere to go as the entire top side of the track was blocked after the caution had already been thrown.
The Southern Nationals rules state, “We do NOT make judgement calls. The car or cars involved in the incident that comes to a STOP on the track will be sent to the rear. Any car that stops or spins to avoid the incident without making contact with any other car will be returned to their position recorded before the incident. If you make contact, you are considered to be part of the wreck.”
