Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson recently addressed if his one year win drought is important to him. Larson has not won a NASCAR Cup Series race since May 11, 2025 when he won the AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway. While Larson has not won since then he did go on to win the Championship last year.
Ahead of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Watkins Glen on Sunday, Larson was asked by a member of the media, “Monday will mark one calendar year since you won a Cup race and I know a lot of people in this room, media in general, fans, they make a big deal out of that. Does that hold any water to you? Do you make a big deal out of that? Is that important to you at all?”
Larson answered, “I think you guys pay attention to it way more than I pay attention to it. Obviously, I would’ve loved to have won to this point, but we just haven’t been good enough. I feel like at times we’re really close to getting a win and then at times we’re far from getting a win. So it just shows how tough this series is.”
“Yeah, I don’t know. We’re working really hard. I say the same thing every time you guys ask. It’s not like we’re not trying to win. We’re just kind of searching how to be better and sometimes maybe search too much and get off track a little. Chase [Elliott] has had a good start to the year, but the rest of us have kinda been off. Still trying to work through it. Just keep fighting. We’ve made this sport, the Cup series, look easy at times, and I’ve never thought it was. I’m glad we can show you that it’s not easy.”
Today marks one calendar year since Kyle Larson last won a NASCAR Cup Series race. He hasn’t won since Kansas last May, despite winning his second Cup Series championship during his current drought.

Despite not winning any races this year, Larson sits in 8th place in the Championship standings. He has 3 Top 5s and 6 Top 10s and has led 499 laps. Only Denny Hamlin has led more laps than him this year. His 3 Top 5s came at Phoenix, Bristol, and Kansas. He finished 3rd at both Phoenix and Bristol and was runner-up at Kansas.
While he’s winless this year in the Cup Series, he’s been to Victory Lane plenty of times in a Sprint Car with the High Limit Racing series. Most recently, he won at Texas Motor Speedway at the end of April. He also parked it at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas on March 12th. He also had a preliminary night Chili Bowl win in a midget back in January.
