Landen Lewis Not Happy With Kaden Honeycutt After CARS Tour Race At Ace Speedway: “His Head Is Getting A Little Too Big For His Britches”

Landen Lewis expressed some frustration with race winner Kaden Honeycutt following the CARS Tour Race at Ace Speedway.

Lewis specifically took issue with the way Honeycutt ran him on a restart following the series’ competition caution. With 33 laps to go, Honeycutt chose the bottom while Lewis went to the top. As the two came off of turn 2 side-by-side the two banged doors and the contact sent Lewis bouncing into the outside wall. That allowed Honeycutt to easily clear him and take full control of the lead.

Lewis expressed his frustration in a post-race interview with Matt Weaver telling him, “Went down into 1 and we were dead even and then coming off of 2 he just never turned, drove me straight into the fence. I know that he’s won four races and all these things. And I guess he got out and said no one can beat him. I promise you that I’ll be the one to beat him next.”

“Just frustrating. I guess he’s upset about Southern National, but at the end of the day that was a hard race for both of us. We both had our shots back and forth. Just think his head is getting a little too big for his britches. That’s just my honest opinion,” he said.

Lewis later added, “I felt like we had a good shot at taking [the lead] off of 2, had the momentum, and then when he shoved me in the fence, at that point, it just got so free. It bent the housing, knocked the toe out. Just frustrating, but at the end of the day we haven’t finished outside of the top 5 and we’ll keep moving on.”

Honeycutt also spoke with Weaver about the restart and Lewis’ frustrations. He said, “We talked. Honestly, I just screwed up a little bit. I misjudged where I was at on the race track. I was just honestly trying to get a  good run and be straight. I wasn’t really trying to be in front of him off of 2, I just wanted to be straight. When I was sideways I was trying to chase it, but stay in the gas. I guess I really fenced him pretty hard. I didn’t see how hard I did it. I just know he went backwards whenever that happened and I was like, ‘Ah crap! I might have done something there.'”

“Yeah, we talked about it. He’s pretty frustrated and I understand, but there’s a lot of other races he’s screwed me out of too. So, I definitely don’t forget that. I’m not usually that guy. I cleaned it up the next restart, didn’t do anything dumb, and tried to bring it home in one piece, and do it the right way.”

Honeycutt also responded to Lewis’ interview with Weaver by sharing a picture of Lewis giving him the bumper at Southern National. He wrote, “I rest my case.”

The two had a heated battle at Southern National Motorsports Park back in March during the track’s Speed Week. On Wednesday, March 4th, the two drivers swapped the lead seven times in 18 laps of the Jerry Moody Memorial with Lewis eventually prevailing and taking home the win.

The CARS Tour heads to Virginia next with stops at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway on May 30th and Dominion Raceway on June 13th. After five races, Caden Kvapil is the current points leader. He extended his lead over Conner Jones and Treyten Lapcevich with a third place finish. He now leads Lapcevish by 23 points while Jones fell to third and is 27 points behind. Chase Burrow sits in fourth while Lewis sits in fifth.
