Cherokee Speedway Press Box Catches Fire

The Cherokee Speedway press box caught fire ahead of the start of the Jamie Mattison Memorial World Crown 4-Cylinder Nationals.

South Carolina native and dirt racing insider Racin’ Jason shared photos from the infield of the track with smoke billowing up out of the press box.

He wrote, “OMG!!!! The press box is on fire at Cherokee.”

He shared another angle and wrote, “Dang.. hope nobody is hurt at Cherokee Speedway.”

He then reiterated it was the press box, but noted that at Cherokee, the concessions are right below it. “Press box but the concession stand is below it.”

As for what caused the fire, Racin’ Jason said, “I canโ€™t tell you what was texted to me on what caused it.. letโ€™s just say what started it ainโ€™t good.”

He also shared that no one was significantly injured from the fire. He said, “I reached out to Cherokee Speedway everyone is ok..”

Tony Jones, a fireman with the Cherryville Fire Department also shared photos from the fire and after it was put out. He posted on Facebook, Going to be a long day at the track today !!! at Cherokee Speedway!!!”
