The World of Outlaws Late Model series and announcer Ruben Mireles revealed what ended Mason Zeigler’s night after he led for a good portion of the beginning of the race.
Zeigler had a strong performance to start off the night. He set fast in Group B in qualifying. He went on to win his heat race and then drew the outside pole in the redraw for the feature. He quickly took control of the lead passing Tristan Chamberlain on the first lap. Zeigler then set sail and checked out until Bobby Pierce tracked him down and began applying pressure and poking his nose underneath him. However, Zeigler was able to hold him off especially as they started moving through lap traffic. In fact, Pierce fell into the clutches of Drake Troutman, who made an aggressive slider to get around him and take the second position.
As Troutman and Pierce continued their battle for second, something happened to Zeigler’s car where he lost a ton of speed exiting turn four. Both Troutman and Pierce were able to blow past him. Zeigler would continue to fall through the field with Tyler Erb and Nick Hoffman both getting past him as well. After a number of cautions and restarts, Zeigler would be the cause of one on Lap 27 and his night would come to an end.
On Facebook, the team only indicated he “retired with issues in the nineteenth position.”
After arriving at Selinsgrove Speedway for tonight’s racing action, Mireles revealed that Zeigler retired due to a right rear shock. He said, “We have an update for you. It was a right rear shock on the 25z, but that team unloading with confidence today and try to tackle the Outlaws for his second Outlaw win.”
