The MARS Racing Series announced that it has canceled its event on Saturday, May 16th at Highland Speedway due to rain showers.

The series announced in a post to social media, “Rounds of showers have continued to fall at the speedway, and with the constant redevelopment of showers and storms as the system continues to push east, track and series officials see this as the best option for the teams and fans.”

The series will return to action on Sunday, May 17th at Coles County Speedway. It will be the series’ first ever visit to the track for the Mission 40 presented by Rural King.

Accuweather predicts thunderstorms in the early afternoon with the chance of precipitation never going lower than 30% throughout the night.

Following racing action at Quincy Raceways on Friday night that saw Jordan Bauer get his first ever win with the series, Ryan Unzicker continues to the lead the series points after a third place finish. However, second place finisher Dylan Thornton is only 35 points behind in second. Caden McWhorter is in third 46 points back while Bauer is in fourth 47 behind Unzicker. Fifth place belongs to Tanner English. He finished in 9th at Quincy last night.

The series will have another triple header next weekend. It will head to Davenport Speedway on May 22nd for the Corn State Nationals. On Saturday it moves into Fairbury for the Triple Down Shootout, and concludes the weekend at Spoon RIver for the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial.
